W220 Design and build issues from 2001 - 2005
We have all heard a great deal about design and build issues on the W220 platform. I'd like to read about some real world experiences as I hope the issue have been settled by the 2003 build year.
For example, I understand dash lighting and air shocks have had problems. Have the newer year models resolved these and other issues?

That's great news........ How about '03-'04?
I was hoping W220 owners would use this thread to chime in.

I just thought a thread with posts and links to threads like your own might be helpful to others. It is definitely helpful to me.

Mercedes all the way!
AFAIK, as long as you stick to a facelifted one (easy to spot), there should be no problems at all.
my one had an intermittent vacuum door problem but i really haven't been bothered to fix it as i never use the feature, although i really should correct it when i have some time....

the w220 was the weakest of ALL s-class...lasting @ a disapointing 7 years 00-07....the w140(i own) is the best IMHO..its ranks the heaviest, longest, cost more then ANY s-class ever built...and the w126 MADE Mercedes famous lasting from 81-91(longest)....its the ICON of all S-Classes,the NEW W221 has ALOT of pressure on its nameplate to bring the S back to where it was before the merger...lets pray MB gets it right..and the w220 was just a nightmare!

Yeah....we w140 boys sure would LOVE to trade our TRUE GERMAN Benzes for a American Made "German" S500...please...go and make fun of the price of my ride, you think your 00 is gonna stay @ its price forever??one day it will be worth 10k too...fact is if the w220 was built like the w140 or even the cream of the crop the 126 it would still be built by MB..but its not cuz it looks like a glorified Tuarus.Son
oh and by the way I COULD have had a new 220,but i didnt want payments or that body style.

dude: the W220 is built in germany.
i agree the W140 is a great car and perhaps further ahead of the field than the any other competition at the time, but the W220 is (was? how time flies) impressive as well. especially (i seem to keep harping this) facelifted.
anyway, this has absolutely no relevance to the thread lol.

I have so little time on my S430 it is hard to provide you any detailed data. But I have talked with many W220 owners and most all are very satisified with their cars. If you are buying used just make sure it is well checked out and has been maintained properly. If new, there is some great pricing on the remaining 2006 models in stock. Good luck in your search.

I bet this is your 1st Benz,if not then im totaly surprized by the lack of respect you have for Mercedes...the parts are from Germany but it was built in the US..thats kinda why your pretty S was $25-$30k less then what my S went for in 94..again you do whave a Beautiful car but sadly its a Mercedes built by Chrysler...thats a American Motor Company in the United States...kinda far from Germany Jack!

YOUR 17TH MERCEDES and yet you cant tell the difference between TRUE GERMAN and AMERICAN GERMAN?..Let me get you up to speed..Mercedes Benz merged with a American Car company known as Chrysler..together there name is Daimler/Chrysler..They did that to lowercost by having Assemly lines here in the US where Mercedes can ship there GERMAN Parts here and be built on a Robotic Assemley Line(unlike TRUE GERMAN Built)..Now your car has German parts but is built on American Soil..not HAND BUILT by GERMAN's..like some of your others you have or had..thats the truth, ignorant post?? sense when was the truth ignorant?...sorry jack its a fact..you paid Several Thousands of dollars for a Chrysler with a Nameplate-fact.

Sales
2004 - 221,610 1998 - 170,245 (merged year)
2003 - 218,717 1997 - 122,265
2002 - 213,225 1996 - 90,844
2001 - 206,638 1995 - 76,752
2000 - 205,614 1994 - 73,002
1999 - 189,437 1993 - 61,899
As you can see Mercedes did improve there sales, matter of fact 04 was there best year in sales racking up 221,610...but the sad thing is Mercedes name is ruined from this, there product has gone down in quality and the use of cheaper materials.Mercedes doesnt care about what they were anymore..RR and Bentley might not sell as many anymore but thats what makes them still special..Mercedes NOW just another assemly line built car...very verry sad.

The only MB's built in the US are in their plant in Vance, AL. They build the ML, the R and soon the GL. That is the extent of ANY MB production facilities in the USA.
Here is the sticker from my new S430...note the Assembly location. That's not in the USA (but with your brain, it may be.)
BTW...I checked your profiles and I have been driving a MB before you were born if that date is accurate. However, since you indicate you are the GM of a used car dealership, that birthday maybe should be 15 years later to match the content of your posts.
No more responses Troll...go back to the board you came from.

81% German parts and 0% of US parts...where the hell is the other 19% ???floating on a raft from Germany??...EVEN if you were one of the lucky ones to have MB built in GERMANY its still on a Robotic Assemly line..thats less quality.MB has lost there QUALITY APPEAL!
