Just got carjacked by two thugs
hey guys...my girlfriend and I just got carjacked by two armed thugs, and all I could do was watch helplessly as they drove off in my car. I called the cops and all that, and we may have caught a break cos these guys were at a 7-11 that we stopped at, and my girlfrined recognized them, so apparently they followed us from there and then carjacked us a few minutes later. Thankfully we were not harmed in anyway, God was watching over us!
My question is: Does my 2000 S430 have some sort of GPS chip or something that could help locate the car? The cop asked if I had Onstar and I said no. Any help or advice from you guys would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks!

I am glad to hear you didn't get hurt.
Your car has TeleAid which is Mercedes' version of OnStar. I know you have to sign up to use some of it's services but I'm not sure whether or not the GPS tracking is one of those services.

Man! Sorry to hear this, Glad you both are ok.
This has been a bad week on the forum. 1st Velociti gets rammed and smashed and now you have guns in your face.

..............please call MBUSA. They are able to lock and unlock your car and tell you where your is located even if you are not calling from within the car. Obviously if you are withing the car, then you will not need them to unlock it. You have to be a Tele-AID subsriber, but under the circumstances they might oblige you. Also, you can have the police call MBUSA as part of their investigation and MBUSA will be obligated to cooperate.

Ted Baldwin and Sprink49 are correct. GPS tracking for purposes of theft recovery is a service offered by Tele-Aid, but I don't know if you can subscribe after the car has been taken. Still, try what Ted suggested. You can get contact info etc. on Tele-Aid at the MBUSA site at http://www.mbusa.com/main/sitemap/index.jsp (You'll have to register on the MBUSA site if you haven't already, but it's free and easy).
In addition, if they got your cell phone (if it was in the car) you may be able to track it as well - and either nail the thieves or find your car, if the phone is still with it. That would require a GPS-enabled phone, and you'd have had to enable the GPS tracking feature.
I just moved to Arlington, VA from a very nice Baltimore neighborhood that is about 5 minutes from where you were carjacked (Milford, at Liberty Road just inside and adjacent to the Beltway - not Milford Mill, which confuses folks sometimes). Very disturbing.
Good luck; hope the car is recovered OK.

That's one of my biggest fears when I drive my car thru less than safe neighborhoods. I'm less concerned about the car being taken and more concerned about having a gun stuck in my face. I always take my phone when me when I leave the car (I have the tel-aid # programmed) and the car will be tracked. If someone wants the car, all they have to do is ask. It's only a car (albeit a bad a$$ car), but not worth life.

Here's the update:
I called MBUSA last night around 2am and subcribed to the TeleAid service, and by 4am I received a call back from them telling me my car had been located somewhere in the inner city. The Baltimore City police was contacted by MB and then car was towed to the impound lot. A cop stopped by my home an hour ago to follow up and he informed me that the ignition had been popped, and he said he assumed that it meant that the car was stolen from the thugs who stole it from me, all in the same night. He had no more details regarding any damage to the car, and I'll have to wait until the Baltimore County police dept gets the car tomorrow, since the crime occurred in Baltimore County. They need to process the car through the crime lab etc before I can see it.
The insurance company has processed the claim and will followup tomorrow as well. To be honest, this whole episode has me thinking about getting rid of the car and getting something else...maybe a 2001 740iL...I dunno... I just feel like it won't be the same again whenever I drive the car...

The 7-11 has video camera footage too. So who knows what might happen to them. There is indeed a satellite tracking option for Mercedes and it can be bought and fitted. I dont think that the teleaid option helps if the driver of the car is not the intended driver.
