I believe you refer to the "ZAS" system, the "Zebra Automated Stopping" system. This was one of MB's first attempts to use nite-time Infra-red imaging technology ,it would detect only Zebras due to their vivid black and white stripes and automatically apply the vehicles brakes. It was dis-continued after a few years as many drivers did not realise it's limitations, became over confident at night, and were still hitting Rhinos,Elephants,Water Bufallo, ect,at an alarming rate, often with tragic results.
It was often an option on the S Class together with the "Long Range Safari Pack" ,which included the extra 27 gallon fuel tank(which you have been looking for),a Pith Hunters helmet, rifle, and 2 Zulu trackers. This option was only available in South Africa sadly.
Hope that helps you out Consultizone.

Here Ya Go
This is it, Euro only option on S 500.It looks totally internal, so I would guess the only way is to give the VIN number to a dealer and pull the specs.

I bet it's the same system they are now using on the V8 in the Chysler 300C.

If we are all talking about the same thing then the S class is designed to run on 4 cylinders for fuel economy but on full throtle all 8 cylinders open and unleash all horses. Only if we are talking about the same thing.

Thankyou justbecause, good work.
I think you are correct about the system being the same as on the 300C, that would make sense being the same company now and all.
By the way, my Dad just bought a 300C, lot of car for the money I must say.
ps. Newton wants to know if there is anyway he could get the S.African ZAS system retro fitted on his mothers car, evidently she particularly liked the bit about the Zulu warriors.
