Wood Steering Wheel for Mercedes S430.

I have Mercedes S430, 2000. I was offered this wood steering wheel. I am not sure how it will look on S430 since it has sportier look. Price is $499.00. I was wondering if it is a good deal and if it’s worth it. I am in LA.

Since I wasn’t able to attach images here, I have uploaded them to my website. www.StandsOnline.com , so feel safe to check out steering wheel images:

Thank you.

I would not install this. Youre going to run in to some many problems.
Go buy a wheel that is specifically for an s class car.

That is an OEM steering wheel for S-Class. Don't you talk unless you know for good.

Here's mine installed without problems by MB Dealership.

P.S. Wheel looks a bit brighter because of the camera flash, it's a complete calyptus match in real life.

What about the size of the wheel? On picture it looks smaller than original one. Did you have any problem installing controls buttons on the wheel or airbag?

The size is just the same. Except It is more thick just the right thickness in my opinion. I find it way more comfortable than the original leather one. I personally didn't install it, because my service adivsor said the AirBag may blow if I do it on my own so I took it to the Dealership and they installed it in minutes kept all the old controls and center thingy with emblem. Besides I have 2000, S430 myself so I strongly suggest you go for it and install the wheel.

So, it is not a leather wheel, right? I don’t understand is it auto market part on real? Did you have any reason not to install the original one and have the one you installed? How much did you pay to dealer to install it?

It is a leather wheel. What I said is the wheel I had was just leather (not wood & leather combo) and It was not as thick as this ergonomic one.

You should understand this wheel is NOT a replica, it is manufactured by Mercedes-Benz.

I chose it because it's ergonomic, and I don't regret it. I had driven S500 with original wood & leather combo and I like mine better though.

Don't recall the labor cost because I've done it in 2004.

Door handles are very easy to install. You can do it yourself in matter of 5 minutes.

Wood Steering wheel

Hi, I am sorry, but if you have inspected the steering wheel to be good quality, I recommend seriously installing.
See thread: Mercedes Benz S430 Calyptus Steering Wheels

I communicated with another forum member. Did some more research and purchased the steering wheel. Went to a recommended MB/BMW shop, the mechanic installed the steering wheel in 10 minutes like a skilled surgeon with me sitting in the passenger seat. Charged was $50.00, Stealership wanted $125.00. I also purchased a wooden gear shift knob to match the wood. I was lucky, the color and wood was a perfect match. The look is very impressive. My regret was maybe I should have gone with the sports steering wheel. I had to give up the old wheel. I discovered the old wheels were taken to Asia and changed to the highest quality wood. I hesitated at first too. No regrets for the price I paid, I believe the wheel will out last the ownership of my S430. Whatever you decide to spend it will definitely improve the interior and worth it.

My two cents, good luck.

I went to buy this steering wheel today and this is what happened: Steering wheel has a Eucalyptus wood trim (exactly what my car has) but it doesn’t look same as rest of my car wood trim, not a big difference but there’s. I called dealer to find out exactly what leather color and wood trim I have, they said that DARK JAVA and Eucalyptus wood. My biggest concern was that steering wheel I was offered has JAVA leather, not a DARK JAVA as I have. So, I didn’t take it, since it won’t match control buttons and middle part of the steering wheel. But I really, really liked the steering wheel.

I,ve got the same wheel fitted to my car "walnut and grey leather" and I agree with singularity, the wheel is a lot thicker and feels a lot nicer than the original one. A local garage fitted it for me at a charge of $15.00 as I was not to sure about removing the old one and unpluging the airbag. If you can get the correct colors then my advice is fit it you sure will notice the difference.

Sure. Go to www.performanceproducts4benz.com Enter year and model then go to Interior -> Wood Accessories and there you go.

This is what I found on internet: http://www.apsisusa.com/Mercedes%20W...dTrimindex.htm Call to that guy directly and talk to him and you get at least 20%-30% off from the asking price.

Scores,

So you have posted on a 4 year old thread. I see you haven't done much on the forum yet and the moderators can always give you more tips, but seriously it is better to start a new thread and reference the old one in your new posting that 300-400 people will actually open and read based on the interest generated by your subject line. Also, having your location show up is a huge plus for responses.

Anyway, I looked at the thread and I seriously think that the wheel is nothing more than Chinese imitation burlwood. It doesn't look remotely close to OEM although the poster discounted the pictures so I could easily be wrong.

I have heard and seen way too many horror stories about guys buying "tricked up" burlwood matching interior accessories like this on ebay and being very dissatisfied with the match, the ability to retain the steering wheel controls, the reliability of the airbag/horn/alignment/etc.

Thanks and best of luck in your search. I use Craigslist to actually go see these type of things in person first to verify quality and match. Just another idea.
