S320?
Hi all, i dont usually post in here but i have a question about the W220. I was getting gas in Dallas getting ready to drive back home to Houston and I saw a w220 badged as a 320. To my knowledge they did'nt make that in the states. Just for general knowledge can someone correct me if im wrong about them making it in the states or did they perhaps have it imported in (steering wheel was on the left)?
thanks
thanks

w220 was from 2000-2006(im sad to say "was" since we are no longer the current body style)
w140 was from 1991-1999
are u sure it was a w220 body style? are u sure it didnt say s350? which is a desiel model and i think its only available in europe unless someone shipped it here.

im for sure it was a w220. it was an older middle east couple so im almost positive it wasnt rebadged. i guess it was a 2006 model as a 350 (the tail lights had three stripes instead of two like the 2000 - 2002 if im correct). i guess i remembered the numbers wrong. so they did make a 350 in the states for 2006? if it were a diesel would'nt it have said cdi?

Over here the 1999 to 2002 were 320 I think, then they went to the 350,
Found some on the net:

Ah, here we go must have been 2003 that they changed the powerplant:

As regards to the tail lights I'd think it would be pretty easy to change them over if one wanted to.

In 2006, the U.S. got the S350 in SWB version only. It's a gas model. Fairly rare on the streets here as it was only released for a year.

The vehicle you've seen was most likely been imported.
W220 was first available in Europe in 1998 with 280 CDI (that nobody was buying thus they disregarded it) and 320, 430, 500, 600 gas engines.
320 is often seen for example here in Russian Federation. 320s been available till 2003. Those engines are gas, 224 horse power V6. Driven one of those, not enough torque for such a big car IMO.

SL63 (R230), CL500 (C215), SL55 (R129), CE300-24 Cabrio (A124)
There was never a S280 CDI, but a S 280 (mainly sold to Singapore).
Smallest Diesel was the S 320 CDI which is quite popular in Europe.

The S320 cdi in both long (5163mm) and short (5043mm) wheelbase seem to be the most popular version over here in the U.K. Most people seem to go for the V6 common rail diesel engine over the gas version because of the high fuel prices here.

W210 comes with a 320 CDI

The only S-class with a 280 gas engine is W140. No such thing as 280 CDI,
W210 comes with a 320 CDI
Driven alot on a W220 S320, absolutly enough power. But everyone is different, some people want 5 or 6 liter engine or S7.3 so they can roll up the asphalt. What is the point of having that in countries NOT like Russia? You can't go over the speed limit, fines are too high and you can get jailed.

My personal experience with S320 proved it to be weak for such a heavy vehicle. Talking about highway performance S320 is definately not enough IMO.

My bad. S280 was the gas engine. But again It has been ignored and taken off production line that's for sure.
Yes there was S280 for W220 in early models.

No there was not. In what country did you see it? It was never in Germany, it can be easily proved by looking here: http://www.mobile.de/

Trust me, nobody would have one given a choice. I've driven one with 4 people in and they can barely get up a steep hill!
