Up In Smoke
A couple of weeks ago I was at the airport and suddenly my 2001 S500 started smoking from under the hood. Within a matter of seconds it burst into flames. It took the fire trucks about 20 minutes to get there (seems very slow being that they are already at the airport). Once the car burst into flames I just jumped out and got as far away as possible. Needless to say, the entire front end of the car completely burned down. I reported to Mercedes Benz but am still waiting to hear back from them. Anyone ever had this problem before. The car was last serviced in June by a MB dealer and has never been serviced anywhere else. It is very interesting that MB hasn't responded to me although my insurance company has paid already.

Sorry for your loss. Think of this as a way to get the new 550. By the way, have you been in Memphis recently? A car looks just like that (before this) passed by me about two weeks ago.

Tail Lights
Actually I had replaced the original tail lights with the 03 updated lights. However, if you are interested in the original tail lights let me know.

Ibeforreal, please don't let this be one of those threads which dies without the full answer. Please keep us posted. Questions are: -
1. did you have retrofit lights at the front? Were they done by a Merc dealer??
2. Was the car a total write off or can it be put back together again?
3. Have you tried phoning and e-mailing MBUSA or getting your local dealer to do that. My dealer would be straight on the phone to Mercedes and get an answer in one day. But i always service with Mercedes dealers.
4. Are you getting another 220 series. I hope so. Much better looking than the new one.
All best wishes.

This damage appears beyond 40% of the car so insurance adjuster should have no problem totalling this. I thought we had aluminum hood. That heat melted the life off a true luxury ride. Damn

No aftermarket parts added other than the updated tail lights and AMG Wheels and they came from Mercedes Benz. Everything else is just like it came from the factory.
