Wow! Just got my new smart key this afternoon and it is Soooooooooo Beautiful!!! Unlocked my car and drove it without any problems! I found out that this key has a much farther range than the old one and it is much easier to open the doors and trunk because I only have to press the button once, not hit and miss sometimes like the old smart key where I have to press the buttons a few times. (I even replaced the 2 batteries in the old smart key and this new smart key still operates much more smoothly )

Cheers!

It is better!

I have to agree with Greg. I got my key yesterday as well. It worked right away and has a btter range than the factory smart key that came with the benz. It is well worthy the money.

Ordered my key through my dealership today. $59 for the key and $15 for the blade. Those were retail prices too I think, b/c he gave me those prices quick. usually he gives me my wholesale discount on top. Anyway, I told him to order the key and blade and gave him my vin and he said "mercedes will kick the order when they see that its not the right key."

I told him i'd eat the $60+ if I get a key that doesnt work.

Just gotta wait and see now

Let me make sure that it does actually work first. I don't want them to be swarmed with people from all over the place lol. They only got 3 parts people, only 2 of them I trust. I'll tell you once i get a working key.

That's still less than most dealers, who are quoting about $200 for a new key. Mine on-line was $128 shipped and worked right out of the package.

beats me. My friend went to pick the key up for me so I didnt have much time to argue w/ them over the phone. The guy who quoted me said "Well I didnt order it, such and such did and that's how much it is. I can't possibly sell you this key for 70 some dollars. it's a remote too" yeah whatever ****ers.

Hi,

Does anyone know if the key frequency in canada is the same as in the US??

That would be of great help if anyone could tell me this because i would really like to buy one of these keys but if the rf does not work then there is no point.

Thanks!

I honestly think it is the same frequency. The only people who had troubles were in UK. It wouldn't make sense for the US and Canada to have different frequencies, but then again the FCC may be why the US has different frequency from the UK in the first place.

This key has the blade insert sold seperatley to manually open the trunk and glove.

ps. Thanks to the boys in the C Class Forum for bringin this awesome upgrade to my attention.

Go to http://oempartsdirect.com/

Then go to: ( 2 ) Search by factory part number and in drop down box where it says (select make) put Mercedes.

Then cut n paste these part numbers

2117663606 ---- for the KEY STANDARD add to cart

Then cut n paste

2037665006 ---- for the BLADE SMART add to cart

You will obviously need to enter your VIN # in this process so have it handy.

Enjoy
For some reason, when you enter these numbers on the website now, the price is about $150. Can anybody help me out with this, because I really want to get these keys for my 2000 S500 (an I need another key anyway). Really appreciate the help.

Seeing that they got a rush of many orders, I'm sure they decided to raise the price. Some have said that it's still cheaper than the dealer.

What?? Did the price go up again? I just got mine and tested it. Range is certainly better than the old key. Ordered it 5/1/2007. For some reason I thought it was smaller than the old key.

The dealers charge over $200 but is that for a single key or a whole set?

So a US key would never work with a non US version of the car.

I have lost my second key of S 500 model 2001. Is it possible i can get a doplicate key from the above source. I had ordered one for my second car E240 model 1999. It came and is running very well but not sure about my S class as mentioned above.

Any feedback will be highly appreciated...

The Resilient (old) Smart Key

I came in yesterday exhausted and sore from a "day off" of heavy yard work, and needing to get ready for the Trick-or-Treaters. I took my filthy clothes off in the utility room, removing stuff from the pockets (guess again) and putting them into the washer.

After showering, I started putting clean clothes together. OMG, where's the key to my S500?

Yes, you know already - in the pocket of the jeans I was washing. At least, that's where it started. It was out among the load. In the water. Glad I had this string bookmarked - maybe this was the excuse I needed.

Anyway, expecting the worst, I dried the key's exterior - and tried it. It worked!! At least, to lock the doors. But a moment later, it wouldn't unlock the doors or open the trunk. I let it dry on a key hanger (red button down) until the Trick-Or-Treaters were done - about 3 hours - and tried again. It works! Everything! Starts the car, operates locks - and now, it's clean and smells fresh, too!

Well, OK - it's not a procedure I'd recommend to anyone. And yes, my washer is a front loader with minimal water usage, so the key wasn't under water all the time (it certainly was when I fished it out, though).

Now I'm looking for another excuse to buy that snazzy new key.
