2002 S430
Question Rear window tint looks puurple (brand new)

Hi, Just bought a 2002 S430 with 12000 miles w/ CPO. The dealer tinted the car for me and it looks great. The only thing is the back window looks purple at certain angles. The side windows always look black, but the rear is purple in color, not like the purple when tint goes bad, but just not a deep rich black like the side windows. The dealer used the same tint on all the windows. The only thing I can think of is that it has something with the UV protection in the glass the same stuff that affects the EZ Pass from working.

Any thoughts would be great thanks.

Yeah, I see a lot of S-classes that have tint that looks purple on the rear window. But mine always looks deep black.

I think if you have the infrared glass that has the factory bluish tint then it will look purple if you go with a 35% tint. If you get 20% or below then that purple color cannot be seen.

Has anyone ever removed tint from their S class? I know these windows easily get scratched.

I have the same purple effect on my CL65 rear window tint. It is definately due to the glass and not a reflection.

look from a side view, you folks can see a mesh window-heat system on the glass, those little wires help defrost the back window, that's the reason why you see different color, cause of the reflection of the wires, cheer

Before you get the windows tinted, you might want to get the plastic trim (on the bottom inside glass) covered in felt, so every time you roll the windows up or down, the tint will br protected.

I kept scratching my tints, and eventually my new tint guy said the felt will prevent any scratching, and sure enough, he was right. He's a fantastic tint guy!

Ok, there are 2 parts to this trim.

The first part goes around the top and sides, and that is covered in felt, but the bottom part is just this long black piece of plastic, and that is the culprit when it comes to scratching. If you pull the door panel away from the door ever so slightly, you will see it.

If it's covered in felt, then you are golden, but if not, just go to a crafts store, and find the thinnest piece of felt, cut it into strips and hot glue those suckers on to the plastic bars.

Once you glueit about a day or two to completely dry, then put the plastic strips back into the door panel.

The easiest way I found how to get the panel seperated is to pry where the door locks are, but if you are unsure or don't want to risk breaking anything, find a tint guy who knows how to do this.
