True, but I like to educate myself with stuff like that as much as I can that way it is more like a calculated risk rather that buying strictly because the market is good.

MBWorld Fanatic!
Be very careful of purchasing any type of mercedes benz in an auction.
I have run into many many mercedes that have problems ranging from cosmetics to tranny/engine.

Don't forget who told the banks/private companies to loan money to people who should not have qualified to own a home. Congress! They get off free of any blame while the banks/private companies get stuck with the fallout. Treating poor risk people the same as good risk only works when your trying to get elected. Hope you that qualify for the tax rebates enjoy them. Remember it's my money your spending. The socialists in the government felt I have enough so my family just keeps paying!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Car from Dealer only auction
I have bought both of my W210 from auctions, very nice car.
On my 2001 W210 I have issue that came with car that I will fix one of these days is the windshield washer relay is bad.
You are right about cosmetic issues, yes you see some little ding in bumper from rock and stone on freeway.
Please note that most of the car get auction in Hi Line auction are coming back from lease, you mostly get on $20000 car about $5000 less then you buy from dealer lots.
Now on economy, I feel your pain that you will not get your tax rebate. Because once you over $150000, you don't qualify for rebate. I don't consider my self upper class, I am still poor middle class working hard in Oil and Gas field kind of person.

Look at the proposal AGAIN. Your math is incorrect, if your a single tax payer and make more than 75k your out, if you have two incomes and make 150k then you to are out. Also if you don't pay taxes your in! And I am a middle class taxpayer as well, there is nothing wrong with making 150K or 25 million a year and wanting the same rebate that everyone else is getting. Think about your comment? You have bought into being jealous of what your neighbor has. So if YOU think he has to much, then it's alright for him/her not to get the something that the socialists are giving you. It's an advance on your vote and don't forget it. Vote for the wrong person and you will be paying much more than you ever dreamed. Choose wisely, and don't believe anything they are saying now. You must dig into the history of the person you support before making the wise choice.

You are right you should never trust your government. They work at our pleasure, most of our population today believe the government. Is there to help the population out of a problem they have gotten themselves into. And the government is ready to help if you don't mind paying for it. Along with maybe taking some of our freedoms away at the sametime. I am DONE with my rant, sorry to go off.

I feel your pain. I work till 12:00 for "that group", and then hopefully between the hours of 2:00 and 5:00 I can keep the rest of my pay.

Did you watch State of Union address last night? Same old crape. Republican and Democrates look like 2 different type of animals. One is happy and clapping and other is sitting with frown face. Where the hell is UNITY.
Where is good old American Glory?

Used car biz is a tough gig, especially if you're dealing with rapidly depreciating stock such as 220's and 215's.

Sure it is.
This would be a fun car to just mod the hell out of and beat it to death without regard to resale, but as is, it isn't worth over 20k.

i think $24,000 is a hell of a price, but shipping would have killed me in MS. it was sold in riverside so this guy can not have much money tied into this car. feel sorry for the person who pays more than that for it.

I think it's time to split!
only Question is,which island to move to?got to have enough roadway to get the S class up to speed and keep it there.or mayby build it into the living room and use it as a martini bar.put a interactive screen in the windshield with functional controls and remember how much fun it used to be to have one for the road. bones

As for the value on the OLD s class falling it's simple. The new S class is a better car and who wants to drive the old model car anyways. Mercedes is all about prestige and there is no prestige in driving the old model, after all what does it say about you if you drive a car that anyone can afford. If it's not about that then why do people buy a 5 year old Mercedes when they could get a brand new Hyundai for less money. Wait until the new SL comes out there will be some smoking deals on the current SL body style.
I have driven the new S class and it really is a great car. In fact I think my wife is going to get one. We had a S500 back in 2000 and it wasn't such a good car. Lots of problems with quality. The new S class seems to be as good as the S class built before 2000. The other factor killing the old S class is the cost to repair in a lot of cases is way beyond the value of the car. I know where I can get a 2001 s430 for 12k that is a great car but if air bag suspension goes bad, I have a hunk of junk in my driveway because the cost to repair the car is not worth spending. This is no big deal if someone buys the car and it last 1-2 years before the bags go bad but if the bags go bad in the first month, bad news. As the cars get older and fall apart faster the buyers pool of people willing to take that risk dries up and the price of the car plummets.

Just Checked the price of last week Auction in Riverside
I just checked the prices of last week auction in Riverside.
2005 MERCEDES S55AMG - SIL 744
VIN: WDBNG74J35A448956 Work Order #: 5333218
This went for $36,500, holy crape, prices are really coming down
http://mmsc400.manheim.com/MABEL/ECR...218&SAUCI=RAA#
2004 MERCEDES S55AMG *-*BLACK
VIN: WDBNG74J04A402922** Work Order #: 5335216
2004 was not sold in auction, NO BUYER, I am pretty sure on next option it will go below $30,000.
http://mmsc400.manheim.com/MABEL/ECR...5216&SAUCI=RAA
Look like I will not need to wait to get my target price of $25000 for 2005 S55 till later this year, I may get it by end of Spring or mid summer.
Amazing $120,000 car will be depreciated to $25000 in 3 years.

That's so funny because just a year ago you could say, the housing market is putting a lot of bad people in a good situation. If you had seen it for what it was for you could have prospered from it.

While I love the new body style, I feel I'm still driving around in a stylish automobile with a high perceived value - that only cost me a fraction of it's original $130k sticker price.....
