tire question...20"

im running
F-20x8.5 245/35/20
R-20x9 275/30/20

there was a screw up when i got the wheels, they made them for a 500 not a 600...i was told that they were the same offset...turned out the rear needed a spacer to clear the caliper...all in all i had a minor rubbing problem on big dips...got the car lowered a few months ago..rubbing got worse...so now my question is...i have 2 extra 255/35/20 sitting in the garage which i only used for 2 weeks on another car...so will this tire eliminate the rub..its only rubbing on the pass. side...and its BARELY touching...the tire is shredded pretty bad now so im going to have to change tires..so do you guys think this tire will work?...if not im going to order 2 255/30/20 just to be on the safe side to make sure that theres no more rubbing.....thanks all

I'm not 100% sure but my guess is that a 255 30 20 will leave you with very little sidewall on a 9.5 wheel and may have some weight issues..
Looking at the pic of your car, it is clear that the spacers you are using are causing you wheels to stick out a little too far.. And being lowered, just amplify the issue.. poor tires are catching all of the resulting backlash...

I'm not sure if tires are going to correct this, you can only get as narrow as you rim will allow safely..

Your offset should be 46 this is the same for S430 S500 and S600.. BUT the wheel has to be made so that it will accommodate the large rear calipers on the S600 and the S55. It seems that your wheels do not although the offset may be correct.

So with the SHIM I'm guessing 5 to 10mm ( which is unaccounted for in calculating fitment ) this adds another figure to the equation.

remember a 275 35 tire with a 46 offset 9.5" wheel will ( should ) be flush with your fender just a but to the unside to prevent rubbing. if you add 5mm shim for example, you would need a 48 to 50 offset to have appox. the same fit.

The same goes for a 10" wheel. there is very little room to play with this width.44 to 46 offset and thats all. Thats why many users either rub or do not lower much.

Doesn't seem like I was much help to your situation, but thats the info...

thanks for the info...i just double checked the invoices..it doesnt state the offset but the rim is 9" wide not 9.5"...my bad...so i think the 255/30 should be fine...the cls and sl guys are running 255/30 on the front of their cars so i dont think weight will be an issue...the wheels actually are flush and dont stick out...the drivers side is fine it never rubs...just the pass side...i guess i can give the 255/35 a try n if all else fails ill just run the 255/30...anyone else have any ideas?

so you are going to run 35 series in the front and 30 series in the back. It will look awkward.

Did you try rolling the fender or grind that little lip in the area that the bumper and fender meet. I run 20x9.5 in the rear with 5mm spacer too and I need to trim that.

wow I did not know that you are running the 275's on the rear with only a 9 inch rim. I too run a 20x9 all the way around and I just lowered it and trimed the bumper end I like the staggered look and I may have to look into just swaping out the tires for now.

hmmm...all staggered setups are supposed to run a lower profile tire...

well I looked behind the rim the other night and mine said 20x9 I am running 245/35/20 I did trim that little metal piece thats it. It actually tucks up there real nice thats why Im still debateing on going staggered or just going with a fatter rear tire.

Its standard to do 35 front and 30 rear, it's what I have and it's whats recommended

thanks for the link..i checked under the car while it was on the hoist..i saw a little metal piece on the top left corner of the passenger rear wheel well..is that the right piece?...and the 255/35 still rubbed a bit...so im ordering tires on monday and the tire shop said the 255/30 should be fine but if i wanna be safe to run a 245/30....so im leaning towards the 245/30 tire instead of ordering the 255 and have it still rubbing by chance....any input guys?.......so ill be running 245/35/20 front and 245/30/20 rear....thanks all

If you run 245/30/20 all around won't that decrease performance? Considering a rear wheel drive car with a 275 in rear has more grip?
