Talking New S500 owner..... WOW

I just bought my 2001 S500 3 weeks ago and think I got a killer deal. 1 owner car, car fax verified, with only 43,000 miles for 21,900! He still had the original sticker for $99,975!! Holy crap these things drop in price! It seems that he has all the service records for recalls and everything checks out fine. I just hope to have a great experience. I have been reading about the general electrical problems and such but I plan on driving this only in good weather and not too often. I LOVE driving this thing! Most people think it's brand new and freak when I tell them it's an 01! I'm glad I found this forum and being a DIY'er I'm sure you guys can help if a problem does arise.

No problem, if it goes out within 10 years of initial date of service. Extended warranty on the cluster covers it.

However, a 3rd party warranty covering especially the Airmatic components and electronics may be useful. Some contributors report good results with the Mercury Platinum coverage.

I got my 01 S500 in the last week of 2007. It had 65kmi for $21000. With the current economy and gas prices, I guess what was once a great deal will now be normal price. I already have noticed minor electrical issues (self closing trunk, wiper pump for windshield and headlights not working).

Get a WIS MB repair manual from Ebay for DIY maintenance and issues. Otherwise, enjoy a great looking car.

Hopefully it will be a good car. I expect minor things to go wrong with it from time to time as long as the air ride suspension doesn't go out anytime soon I'll be good. (I have checked for cracks and such) I do have money set aside for unforeseen repairs and this won't be a daily driver so if it breaks down I'll enjoy it from the garage and sit in it every once and a while and let the massaging seats work my back. It will be the worlds most expensive massage chair!

I don't have any warranty but have set aside some cash in case something goes wrong. Coming from an M3 convertible which I still have, I never thought that I would enjoy driving this car so much. You get looks of envy from on-lookers that you would have never got from a comparably priced Camry or Accord.

Well said! I couldn't agree with you more. The looks I get from others have been greater than any other car I've had!

2001 S430
Congratulations. Enjoy the car.
I bought my S430 of 2001 in July 2006 at 56000 miles at $27000. That was a good deal at that time. Today's deals are much better. I am enjoying since than with 101000 miles on it today. The only problem, I had was AC failure. They recharge it and it is working fine since than. Instrument cluster was the other problem. But it was covered under recall. All and all, it looks like, I am lucky not to have too many problems as others. You will be in love with that car.
