01 S500 Catalytic Converter Problem

Hey guys, I have this rattling noise and I know is the catalytic converter. I heard that there are places such as www.evosprt.com where you can buy the cat itself and have an exhaust system shop weld them for you rather than replacing the entire exhaust system as the stealership would like to do. Is there any truth to this notion, or any suggestions?

just get a quality match

do a search and look what the other members are buying.i know they refer to them as high flow cats, which wont make any difference in your application but it wont have any adverse effects either.if you have the $ replace them as a set.im guessing $160 each and $75 install.use a reputable shop that specializes in exhaust systems to do the install.see if they will cut the flanges off your old cats and attach to the new "universal fit" cats so that you can retain the bolt on application.ps' if your factory units are weld in than it will make it that much easier, measure the tube diameter before you order so you get a direct fit.

Yes it seems to be only for USA.

Had the same prob with my S320 in belgium, got to the stealership and they just removed both cat (the one right after the engine :o )

They sayd "no, there is no prob with removing it"

Catalytic converter issue recently?

Has anyone tackled replacing a catalytic converter on a 2001 S500 or similar recently? Wondering if any new suggestions on how to get rid of the rattling noises. Getting louder than my music now. Thank you in advance.

Mercedes
There are muffler shops that can put in a universal aftermarket cat for less than $200 installed
