Hello. I'm a noob.

Hello! This site is great! I just need a few directions to kickstart my inquiries. My father decided to upgrade from his 03 Passat and got this, an 05 S430. Its a great car and it feels absolutely solid! Anyhow, I'm the co-driver and I'm taking over the title after a couple of years so I thought i'd start knowing this car.

Here's a couple of pics

Anyway, I'm just curious why this W220 didn't come with Xenons and I'm pretty sure i asked the salesguy if it did came with it and he said yes. Double checked it when we got home it looked like its halogen (took delivery when it was still daylight and my father was already sold on it before i even got the chance to take a look at it carefully).

Any advise?
thanks for lookin' btw!

Bi-xenons were offered, along with headlight washers, as an $1,200 option on that model that year. The S500 had them standard.

Enjoy the new ride.

You probably have the headlight washer cutout in the bumper, but do you have the button next to the headlight switch?

Nice Ride!!

I visit Ontario a Lot I'll PM you when I am going out there and show you some Cool MOD tips!!!

You have to have the option 319 lighting package which includes 600 head lamp washing system, and 614 bi-Xenon headlamps. My 04 has this
option.

At least you have the clear halogens stock... this was standard from 04+ on all versions. Maybe the salesman that told you otherwise was a bit confused or just didn't know... I'd say option "B" is more correct.

Want some cool Rims for your Car? I have some Cheap!!!

Sounds great! i'll be on the look out for someone parting out their headlights in the future. Is it available anywhere else aside from the dealership or is it even possible to convert? Wheels? I'm looking at these 19" MMR HR4s but AMG or Brabus will also do. What wheels do you have?

Knowing how much extra parts costs on these car, i might have to start saving up now

It is definitely possible to convert to bi-xenons. I think you have to get the dealer to recode it accept bi-xenons or it might flicker.

I think the HR4s look good, but I don't know how good they'll look on the W220. It just seems like the wheels are a bit too square for the rounder W220 body.

I didn't notice you're from Richmond Hill until just now. I visit Toronto a lot as well.

I doubt they'll honor a part not purchased from their department but i'll have to look and see. I guess i just have to make sure its a genuine part. Seems like for this car you can't really fool around bringing it to indy shops.
As far as the wheels go, I'm still looking around for options because right now i'm more oriented to VW Audi parts and mods since I mainly drive an 02 Passat. That's the only car i've modded so far.

I agree with the HR4s not looking entire good on a more rounded body such as the W220 because i think it does suit the A8 better. Anyhow, i'm open for suggestions.

yup, i'm from Richmond Hill. I go to York University and i don't go downtown TO much often... bad roads for a lowered car.

No these are 19" lorinzor Lm6 replicas.. I have 6. You have to run them unstaggered on your 4 matic but the other 2 are free... here's how the looked on my car.

I want 500 for all. you pay shipping. and they come with 4 Bridgestone RFT's fronts are good backs you can;t use anyway..( staggered ) .

TPMS sensors are already fitted at the rear of the wheels, but you will have to swap yours out.

Oh.. I have a set of chrome lugs also that goes with them.

PM me if interested.

Good price. How much would the shipping be to Richmond Hill ON CA (L4C 9K1)? When are you planning on visiting Ontario? Maybe we could work something out as an alternative to shipping. I'm extremely interested so keep them for me until we can work something out.

btw, how's the condition of the wheels?

whats up with the bi-xenons?

why are they so sought after?is the light they emit that much better than halogen?.i know i have them with the self leveling but to be honest as long as the illumination wasnt totally different id prefer the halogens from a maintanance/replacement standpoint.

Yes Xenons are brighter and cooler ( temp wise ).
They are just cool that's all. I'm not a fan of spending $125 for a bulb either.. but they do look good

if im not mistaken i have read threads describing $1200 per side for the igniter/coil on the xenons,im sure it uses a constant arc to produce the ultra white light.no big thing,i love our S.i know eventually ill have to replace those components or step up and get the S550.The tough part of allowing yourself to get spoiled by MB's is that you will be faced with the reality of having to make an enormous amount of cash to support the desire to upgrade.everytime you think your there MB will design a car that you will just have to buy.

Congratulations on your (Dad's) purchase. There is more justification for a 4matic in Canada, but I find mine great even in Florida. There is a wonderful feel of command of the road even on dry pavement, and the stability in our tropical downpours here justifies it as well.

my06clk is exactly correct about staggered wheels. Bad idea on a 4Matic - sets the drivetrain working against itself constantly. The rolling diameters of all wheels/tires must be the same on a 4matic. Technically you can use larger wheels in back, but then must use a rear tire aspect ratio (shorter sidewalls) to keep the revolutions per mile the same as the front - kind of an odd look. Best just to keep the wheel sizes the same.

First of all, I was expecting Xenon lights especially for an S Klasse and it just surprised me that it was an option for our car. I've been driving cars with halogen bulbs and i swapped my old halogen headies of my Passat for a set of Ecode headlights (Xenon) last year. I noticed a big difference driving at night and it was much easier to see and brighter. Its not because it just looks cool but the safety point of view as well. Also, for halogens, i've noticed that one has to change it often because of its short lifespan (burnouts). Since I had my Xenons last year, the light output hasn't decreased not has been changed since the original owner had it for 4 years. I tried different halogen bulbs since i owned my Passat and none of them lasted long for one year.

So i think it really justifies paying the pricing for safety and also maintenance, in my opinion

btw, as much as possible, i'd prefer to buy parts from someone who's parting out. For me, relying on the dealership parts dept is nuts! Well, i guess i just have to get the feel of everything first since this is a MB and the last thing i would do is to screw around with it.

Thanks! My dad already told me that after a couple of years i'll be taking over the payments and I'll be handing down my current car, Passat (modded), to my sister. We haven't taken it out for the real everyday driving experience. We're pampering it for the next week or so since its raining for the past couple of days and we just had it prof. detailed since we took delivery straight from the dealership.

As far as the wheel goes, i'm not in a hurry to jump on any right away. I have to do my research first (and everything else as well) since its an MB and the last thing i want to do, like what i said above, is to screw around with it.

Naa that may be for the entire assembly.. I have replaced one of mine already and that was the cost for me. Still too much in comparison to a regular set of bulbs, but hey.. as you said.. thats the price you pay to bling...

Do you guys have any recommendation on what site to look at for parts and others?

btw, here's my current daily driver.

Of course, the ride's alot more harsher (and bumpier) than the W220
