I traded in my 05 ML350 with 78,000 miles and was given $19,000 as trade-in. The purchase price on my 06 S500 was reasonable so they didn't get me on that end. The offer you received sounds low but, in the end, it's always a matter of supply and demand. Maybe that dealer had a bunch of S430s on hand and didn't really want another one. My advice is to shop around - you will either find a better deal or you will learn that $20,000 is the actual trade-in value. You can always check www.kbb.com

300E a couple 1994 w124wagon E320 Wagon/,1971MGB Track/Rally, MG Midget Autocross ,2000 E320 wagon.
Trade in

is about 27k and they are hitting you for all the miles.MB figures about 12k a year and you have over 5 years miles on a 2 year old car.KBB will do you no good on value, the dealer simply does not want to sit on that car or have to auction it.
Try to sell it private party.

Let me understand, getting a value from KBB will do you no good. ???

That's nonsense. Heaven forbid you might actually look to an independent data source to help you understand the value of your car. It might not mean anything to a dealer but it's a heck of a lot more valuable than just guessing at the value of your car. KBB values are derived from actual transactions in your area.

Don't forget to look at the Trade In value when comparing. The dealer retail value will always be higher. You will almost always get more from a private party sale but then you have to deal with the advertising, showing of the car and assuming some degree of risk in the sale. Your choice.

Guys that's called the wake-up call

When these cars are selling so cheap at retail and are so hard to sell, you can't expect them to trade for anything..

It doesn;t matter today what your car cost new.. that is NEVER a factor when it comes to resale not even if you sold it 6 months after driving off the lot.

The best you can do is try to sell it outright but good luck with that. But you are still going to be buried.

Hate to say it but that's just how it is.. People think cuz they own a mercedes they have something.. but the truth of it is these things are not worth anything near what they cost. Its still one of the nicest cars out there but I'll never pay premium for one.

If you want to feel a little better, look at the 2003 2004 SL500's. I am in the market so I scoured Auto trader the other day and was surprised at how many I saw foe the mid to high 20's with milage in the 30's... THink about those people who paid 120K.. sad sad sad.. time for the sellers but happy times for the buyer with a little cash in his pocket..

2003 S500 - Toyota Corolla (in the rain)
The moral to this story is never buy a new Mercedes. The price drops thousands as soon as you pull it off the lot. Wait a year or two and then check out the differences. You can buy 07 S550's which sold for the mid to high 90's a little over a year ago are now available in the mid-50's. That is a 40k drop in less than 2 years.

then do what everyone else does.

Buy a 2 year old, CPO one, save $35k, and still enjoy an MB.
