HELP, need a towing hitch for my S430

Hey, If ANYONE has an old towing hitch on their car and you dont need it, I'll buy it, OR if you know where I can get a towing hitch without paying $250, please let me know.

I need one to fit the S430, 2003. Regular towing hitches won't fit these cars, so they need to be custom made, which I have seen the prices between $250-$500.

Moving soon!!!

Matt

That would be a site to see.. MAke sre you post pics of your car with a u-haul connected to it.

Speaking of which, since it's rare that someone would dare to what you are wanting to do, it is unlikely you are going to get a custom hitch cheaper than the 4250 to 4500 range. I may be cheaoer to get a tuck and a car trailer and be done.

I don't know about most people here but I would not dare put a tow hitch on my S-class.

Really? you dont think it's a good idea? The car would be pulling a little u-haul trailer with not much weight (2000lbs). I've seen honda accords pull trailer bigger then there car.

I'm not going to say if its a good idea or not. It's your car. I just feel that some car classes should not be doing certain things.. That;s just my opinion. More pertinent to the subject is the fact that you will need a custom hitch and it will not be cheap. Weigh your options carefully.

your car is heavy enough as is. Besides putting the extra weight on your engine, tranny... its stopping that is going to be a major concern.

Your car stop from 60-0 in x amount of feet.

now add 2k pounds of momentum pushing your car when you hit the brakes.

its now x(3)ft to stop instead of just x.

honestly whats the big deal................Is it because it's a mercedes he shouldn't dare tow a trailer? Its just a flippin car for petes sake. The same arguments about pulling/stopping can be made for any car in the world.
OP.........if you went to the traditional hitch places and they couldn't find one for your car, then more than likey it doesnt' exist and is not worth the hassle.
if you moving a long distance, check out a company called Upack and ABF shipping who transport your items and charge by cubic feet of space used. It's usually cheaper than renting a one way uhaul truck/trailer anyway.

And you are correct on both points.. it's no big deal at all I just wouldn;t do it.
I don't agree with the braking factor either lke phillipm stated as this car has ample braking. I've pulled a trailor with a lot less car.

The important point for the OP is that there is no way he is going to find custom hitch for his car for the pennies he is wanting to spend. So in his case he should look at other options.

The fact that it is "just a car" doesn't skirt the fact that it is rare that people put a tow hitch on these types of cars so he is going to pay a premium to get it made. Then there is the wire lighting, How do you do that without lighting up your dash like a christmas tree? It's just not the best option.

Thanks, I did look at the moving pods and in the long run its probably better to do that. The custom hitch was $350 and the U-haul trailer was $600=950. The moving pod company is $1000 and they take care of EVERYTHING!.

Thanks for the input everyone

don't use the moving POD people they are outrageously priced. specifically check out UPACK. They range about 60% lower than that pod company

Are you moving far? That's still an expensive move. When I came back to Tx from Atlanta, I just had my wife follow me in the car behind the Truck. It was cheaper to pay the gas. We stopped a lot but I had to do that anyway because that truck was like riding a bull.

If you're moving a couple of thousand pounds, you can rent a box truck and pay for the gas cheaper than you'll fit a hitch on your MRZ. As everyone seems to agree, it isn't whether you CAN fit a hitch to the W220 or whether the car can pull the trailer safely, it's that there are simpler solutions (and less costly ones) to your problem, so why bother?
