I don't know about that. The book is very explicit: "not approved for use in AMG engines" wouldn't make me comfortable at all. I'm just wondering why.

honestly, there is no magic in AMG engines. I haven't seen any evidence that using an unapproved oil, when changed regularly enough, would cause any damage.

That said, there is no reason not to use an approved oil.

Larger oil passages and higher oil temperatures require a thicker oil for proper lubrication.
