S320 rattling sound !!
I have a problem ,
Since the purchase of my S320 (my 2000/203.000 km) ,I hear a rattiling sound when idling.
I have the following parts replaced : all of the rollers
v-belt
chain tensioner
waterpump
But the noise remained , I then removed the v-belt and started the engine , yes you can guess the sound comes from the engine.
Now I decided to replace the sliding rails and the rollerchain.
I would like your advice , what to do and how to proceed .
Thanks in advance.

if under 80k miles you are still under guarantee.
OP you need to either learn how to diagnose the problem or find someone that can.Throwing parts at it will soon get you hating the car, hating mercedes,or hating yourself for throwing money at it,with not a clue as to what the issues are.Or all of the above.
per above check the cats, the pebbles in a can sound often sounds like it is at the engine when it is merely the sound of the bad cat feeding back to the engine block.
simple at home tests can be done to determine if a cat is bad.

ref the rattling. again I have a similar problem which is the second cat on the drivers side in my instance. You can replace this with a used section. I was quoted £450 for new and £50 for used!!!
Whilst I am here I have a s430 (2000) i have lost the radio manual and do not know how to turn off the TP traffic reporting. It's driving me nuts, can anyone help?

S320
Thanks
Alright , I will also check that before I start the "óperation"'.
By the way , that sound is only at idle , if you press the gas pedal than you hear nothing ??

S320 rattling sound
Problem is solved
The engine of my S320 is running as new , no more "ratteling " noise .
During the mayor "surgery" i have replaced all the gaskets and the waterpump .
Cause of the noise , were the chain guides i have replaced all the 4 guides and the chain too, btw chain was still good no slack or play .
The 2 upper guides had clear traces of wear , especially the one on the right side , were the noise of ratteling was clearly audible.

I think you should get extended warranty and then get it repaired, because ur car is still qualified for extended warranty, so u can save a lot of money.

I am considering buying an S320 with this rattling noise. The car has done just under 70000 miles so I wouldn't expect a timing chain problem. This rattle also make the car vibrate. I was told it has to do with something connecting the manifold that got broken. Is this a minor problem or a major one pls?
