S320 rattling sound !!
Since the purchase of my S320 (my 2000/203.000 km) ,I hear a rattiling sound when idling.
I have the following parts replaced : all of the rollers
v-belt
chain tensioner
waterpump
But the noise remained , I then removed the v-belt and started the engine , yes you can guess the sound comes from the engine.
Now I decided to replace the sliding rails and the rollerchain.
I would like your advice , what to do and how to proceed .
Thanks in advance.
OP you need to either learn how to diagnose the problem or find someone that can.Throwing parts at it will soon get you hating the car, hating mercedes,or hating yourself for throwing money at it,with not a clue as to what the issues are.Or all of the above.

per above check the cats, the pebbles in a can sound often sounds like it is at the engine when it is merely the sound of the bad cat feeding back to the engine block.

simple at home tests can be done to determine if a cat is bad.
Whilst I am here I have a s430 (2000) i have lost the radio manual and do not know how to turn off the TP traffic reporting. It's driving me nuts, can anyone help?

Alright , I will also check that before I start the "óperation"'.
By the way , that sound is only at idle , if you press the gas pedal than you hear nothing ??

The engine of my S320 is running as new , no more "ratteling " noise .
During the mayor "surgery" i have replaced all the gaskets and the waterpump .
Cause of the noise , were the chain guides i have replaced all the 4 guides and the chain too, btw chain was still good no slack or play .
The 2 upper guides had clear traces of wear , especially the one on the right side , were the noise of ratteling was clearly audible.
