Cigarette lighter

I have S500, the cigarette lighter was working until I find out some coins fall in. I removed them and try to charge my cell phone and its not working anymore. I think a fuse blown up and need change. Is that true?

The fuse would be the first thing to check and easy to replace if blown, spare fuses are provided by MB on top of the spare tire in the trunk. I am not sure if all three cig lighters (1 front, 2 rears) are on the same fuse. If not, you can use one of the rears to test in the front, if the fuse is not the issue.

Good Luck!

The coins gave the curcuit a dead short, which means the fuse saved the other electrical bits in your car. FUSE IS BLOWN.

ayayikes, you didn't give us a model year, but if you cannot locate your fuse diagram, see post 14 and 15 at http://www.benzworld.org/forums/w220...e-chart-2.html (note the error mentioned; on the middle chart, the row labeled F16-F27 should be F6-F27), and also post 3 at http://www.benzworld.org/forums/w220...e-diagram.html.

Your front lighter fuse is probably F11. Rear lighters each also have their own separate fuses.

Thank you guys all It was the fuse. I get it replaced. However when I plug in ipod or cell phone to charge, the car from time to time shakes a little bit and the engine about to cut off. I experience that a few times especially when driving slow in trafic. When I unplug everything it becames normal. I have 97 S500. What could be the problem??

You may have done more damage to the wiring than just a fuse. Tough to diagnose just where over the web. You might get better feedback if you post in the W140 forum, which is the one for your car - the W220 is very different. Perhaps someone with a W140 has had a similar problem, and knows which circuit may be affected.

When you plug something into the cigarette lighter it seems to be grounding something it shouldn't, or feeding a voltage where it shouldn't. Removing the device restores normal conditions.

Hi Skylaw,
I get high Feed back from my speakers when I connect my iphone to the front cigarette lighter which continues when I use the bluetooth as well. I tried diffeent chargers and the same issue. Apparantly the rear sockets give a light feedback but do not function at all. Can you please tell me how I could solve this by myself?? I would really appreciate it very much.

Before assuming it is the fuse, check that the rear window override switch is not activated. It will not only keep the windows from being operated, but will also cut out the rear lighters - a kiddie protective feature covered in your owner's manual.

If you don't have an owner's manual, see https://www.mbusa.com/mercedes/servi...owners_manuals

If you do have one and didn't read it, shame on you!
