Blown Tire on Highway Pops the Air Strut!!

Well...had a tire blow out on the freeway and it poped the air strut. So I am going to order a new one from Arnott and attempt to do the repair myself. I watched the video on http://bilsteinus.com/airmaticshockinstall/ . My question is at the end of the video the guy tightens somthing under the car but I never saw him loosen this. What is this/he doing? Anyone that has replaced their air strut have any tips or pointers? Thanks!

btw - It is an 2003 S430

He's tightening the control arm bushing bolt.

why? I have no idea. I'm pretty sure this is not a required step unless you have bind in the suspension.

In fact, I'm not sure you even have to remove the upper link to hub bolt to get the strut out.

I'm sure some people with experience will chime in.

Thanks for the reply! It does not show him removing the upper link hub bolt to remove the strut in the video. Thats way I am a little confused.

two different things unfortunately.

I did some research, and it looks like you will need to pop the upper link to hub off to get the new strut in.

The parts he tightens at the end is the lower control arm bolts.

So I will not need to loosen (or tighten) the lower control arm bolts? Also, when you say I need to pop the upper link to hub, is that the upper ball joint?

I say no on messing with the Lower control arm, and yes on the upper ball joint.

BTW - Anyone know which fuse is for the air suspension? There are three 40 amp fuses in a row and I am not sure which one it is. Thanks!

The Airmatic 40amp fuse is the one nearest the front of the car. It is most likely red in color.

Swapped it out last night and everything seems to be working fine now. I will keep an eye on it for a couple of days. Thanks everyone for the help. Saved a ton over the dealer price.
