S500 with AMG wheels?

Hi, folks!

I have a 2002 S500. I've never added customer wheels to a car, let alone to what appears to be a very aftermarket-unfriendly Mercedes. I want to add the AMG 5-spoke 215 wheels with 19*8.5 fronts and 19*9.5 rears. The local Mercedes folks are having a hard time responding in a timely and authoritative fashion. I see from TireRack that I can get front/back 19*8.5s with Pilot Sports. The automatic configurator for the S500 doesn't give me a choice of 19*9.5 rear wheel / tire combination. Both when I choose the S500 or S500 Sport models.

I also see that if I order the "Style I" wheels from MB, they want the car to have the "Sports Package" with the "Mod Body for AMG Wheels". The local MB folks "accessories" guy says that the Mod Body" is changing the way the edges of the sheet metal are finished in the wheel wells so the tires don't rub on the larger wheels.

I'm sorry if I sound like an idiot, but I'm hoping to get a pretty definitive answer since my wife drives the car. Good to keep her safe and happy.

Any thoughts on adding these wheels to the non-sports package S500?

Any thoughts of a reputable after market vendor in the Southeast?

As a contribution to this forum, I did have XM Radio recently added to my S500 through the antenna input on the stock MB radio. There really isn't a place to mount the small Pioneer "tuner", but our guy here put it very effectively in the storage compartment on the console. With the larger "real tuner" piece sitting behind the radio. Completely
invisible and accessible to change channels when I open the storage compartment door. Volume controls on the radio and steering column work. Changing channels must happen from the XM tuner and not from the steering wheel since the XM tuner is plugged into the stock MB radio. The XM antenna would not work inside on the back deck, so I had to mount it outside. Doesn't look <that> bad and is a good trade-off for the good tunes. Would be nice if MB joined the 21st century and started shipping XM Radio capable radios.

Yes, they're 19" AMG wheels.
I'll send you a close-up pic with the adjacent Dunlop 19 sidewall marking as soon as it gets above 0 celsius in these parts

I misread your original post. Your wheels are aftermarket. The ones which come from the factory are as follows:

Tires Standard steel-belted radial 245/45ZR18 front and rear, high-performance.2 With optional sport package 245/45ZR18 front, 265/40ZR18 rear, high-performance.2

The AMG models come stock with the 19' wheels.

No one could give me a straight answer either, so last night i took my 19X8 Chrome CL wheel that is on my CLK and a 19x9.5 Chrome CL wheel that is on the back of my CLK and bolted them with no problems onto my dads 2000 S-500. Im running 235-35-19 front and it cleared lock to lock, the rear im running 265-30-19's and there was plenty of room for say 285 or maybe even a 295.

these are my wheels..

Also tire rack says you can get the package deal… I looked just a min ago. AMG 5 Spoke 215 wheels, 19X8.5 front, 245-40 and 19X9.5 285-35
