Question: Replacing Airmatic Siemens relay with Hella...

Hello all- I'm pretty sure I've got a nasty little Siemens relay in slot "O", so I'd like to replace it with a Hella. Any ideas on where to get it? AZ Autohaus has this:

http://www.autohausaz.com/search/pro...nation%20Relay

...but I'm not sure if these are the ones, since they say "multipurpose".

Any ideas? Thanks- I want to get that bad boy out of there!

..so I guess the question would be... does it need the 4 or 5 prong relay?

Possible bad seals or leaking line connections. Sounds like the pump is working, so... Pay to have it diagnosed- it's worth it.

Back to my thread.

Anyone know whether its the 4 or 5 blade relay? Thanks

Post 18 at https://mbworld.org/forums/s-class-w...ic-failed.html has a photo with the Hella part number. Post #10 at https://mbworld.org/forums/s-class-w...ic-issues.html provides more information and part numbers. I believe any of the ones mentioned in those posts will work.

You can pull the relay you have now to see if it is 4 or 5 prong. If it is a 4 prong relay and there are 5 slots in the fuse panel, then it is likely a 5 prong would also work - but one prong isn't wired up in the panel. Let us know what you find.

Thanks for the reply- I'll get back with an update on the part number. It sounds like AZAutohaus has a pretty great price- but I need to cross check their internal part number against the Hella (7219) part number.

Back to the ham... (don't ask me how I got saddled with it , but it'll be tasty in about 5 more hours...)

Happy holidays!

OK, Guys, in the above link, at leat for my 2001, it is the top (1319) relay. At $7 bones and change, that beats the dealer (for the same exact part) by $30! I ordered 3.

Have a great Christmas and New Years, guys!

was there any problem with the siemens relay or are you just upgrading to the Hella to prevent a future problem??

Nope- but I spoke with my master tech, who advised me that the Siemens relays are very poorly built- if this relay bypasses on you, the pump will be fried. The Hellas pretty much don't fail, so it's peace of mind....

Also, several other critical systems use the 4 blade relay, and it's advisable to upgrade them to the more stout Hella as well, according to my tech...

2001 S430
2001 S430 Airmatic Hella Relay

Hey Chris:

I don't have any issues as of yet with my airmatic (2001 S430) however I want to be safe from a precautionary standpoint. I know I have Siemans relay and would like to replace with a Hella Did yours work??? ...Could you you let me which one to pull out off the passenger side fuse box ... I see 3 of them in there. Also is there any other steps and I should be kooking out for to prevent an airmatic failure.

I also noticed a couple of minute hairline cracks forming around the black surface on the top of the strut assemblies in the front. Is this something to worry about??

Thanks.

Ronnie
