Federal Clean Air Act

You should'nt have to pay for new Cats as they are covered by the Federal Clean Air Act. If your Cats are defective within 8 years or 80,000 miles the dealership must replace them on warranty. It does'nt matter whether you are the original owner or not. I had a defective Cat on my 2003S430 last year and the dealer replaced it free of charge. Do a google search as this law is on the internet.

Cats

It does'nt matter that he has 123,00 miles. The Warranty is for 8 Years OR 80,000 miles. The 8 years applies to his vehicle's age. If the OR was an AND that would be different story.

usually its 8 years OR 80k miles, "whichever comes first".

Are you certain its "whichever comes last"?

It looks like it is 8 years OR 80,000 miles. (Whichever comes first).

It's not the qualifier (OR or AND). It's whichever comes FIRST.

Law

Your vehicle is less than 2 years old and has less than 24,000
miles (up to 8 years/80,000 miles for certain components)

Tha law says nothing about whichever comes first.

Thats not the way warranties work. They dont cover a car thats 7 years old with 250k miles.

Are you for real? Read the link posted above. Here's a quote:

Specified major emission control components
are covered for the first 8 years or 80,000 miles.

The dealer told me to take a hike. 80,000 miles or 8 years & I have over 80,000 miles, so no deal.

They do. Go to a muffler shop not the dealer. A factory cat will be several hundred

Whats the pros/cons for removing the cats?? Will the car still pass emissions? (where it applies)

In states with emissions testing, removing the cats means it will not pass, unless of course you have a mechanic friend who passes it for you.

The reason to remove is better sound and small power gain, though it hurts resale value tremendously and affects where the car can be sold unless they are replaced

If it was not which ever comes first, then they would not put "8 Years" as a part of the title, for 80k is where the warranty would actually end, no matter what. It is ALWAYS which ever comes first if there are 2 "time frames" so to speak.

there are some rare instances where its whichever is longer/last, but those will be clearly specified.
