Why won't my S500 burn rubber?
Not that I would make a habit out of this, but I switched off the traction control to see how much power this car has off the line.
It didn't do much at all. Should this car be able to smoke em?
Does pushing the ESP off not fully shut down the traction control?
Thanks

I don't think it has enough power for the weight of the car to burn out. If you have the sport package with the AMG wheels, then it definately won't.
If you turn off the ESP, it is still kind of on, but if you had enough power, it would still peel out before kicking in.

Thanks ///MB. I thought I saw somewhere that ESP remains partially active, even if switched off. Plus, I have 245/24/18's, which contributes.
Good thing I have my 71 455 HO Trans Am for my burnout fixes.

When the ESP is on (no light in the dash) and the car senses a loss of traction, it will retard the engine torque and brake whichever wheels it needs to, in order to regain traction. With the ESP off, I don't think it regulates the engine power, but instead may just transfer the power between the wheels by individually braking the drive wheels. But, even with this system always active, I think it will still allow you to spin the wheels. However, the S500 or the 01-02 600, for that matter, can really burn out the tires in a dry straight acceleration. Especially if you have anything larger than the stock 225 tires.
