I could help but first I have to ask a few questions:
1. How old are you?
2. Why would you want to wreck a beautiful riding car like this with 22's?
3. Just how old are you?

whats funny is that the "purists" are more childish and immature than the people simply asking for technical information on their MB wheel upsizing.
Try the wheels and tires subforum of this site. I would go with the
265/30/22 front
295/25/22 rear
but dont buy them online...buy them at a tire store and make them do a TEST FITMENT before paying so if they dont fit you can get a smaller size

To the OP:
You do realize that your overall tire diameter is going to be 1.5"-2.0" taller than before
That means your speedo will be off BAD
Your acceleration will be significantly slower
And your mileage will be in the toilet.
Just food for thought.
If you still insist on doing this:
Try to keep the overall diameter to NO MORE than 27" stock is 26.5"
Try to match the tread width to the rim width.
Please don't stretch them
Good luck

If one is going to go extreme, one really should be mature enough to take a little flak without whining. After all, it's just words, right?

His mama. Traded y0 mama in because she was squeaking.
22 FOOT?
Damn!
Who cares about such silly things when you're blingin', y0?!
To be fair, though... 22's were all the rage on wagons in the 1800's.
Damn!

While I agree with the sentiments of MRAMG1, OliverK and i_am_amused, the second post by MRAMG1 contained the kind of advice - solicited or not - that the OP should consider before taking the steps he asked about. OliverK's post also had a valid observation regarding tires.
Those posts are pretty good responses to the OP, providing information he may not have considered - and just as importantly, information that other forum members who read this thread may not have considered.
Indeed, the target audience of a response may include more than just the individual whose query is being answered.

how are 22s ridiculous? they look just like 20s but fill the wheel well better
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/NICE-...item43a08ba54c
please, stop being so closed minded. This is the same things heard on online forums in 2002 about 20 inch rims

Yes there are garish chromed 22s that look bad on ANY car, but the right 22s on a benz
look better than 20s.
And MRAMG you should check facts about height difference..>IF< you select the right tires. the difference can be as little as 0.5 inches or less.
Lets look at my suggestion which you called "way too tall"..... a Sumitomo 225 60 16 is 26.8 tall
http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires....m=26WR6HTRZ2V3
A 265 30 22 Dunlop, is 27.3 inches tall
http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires....m=63ZR2SMGTXL#
Again its all about picking the right rims and tires in the 22 inch diamter, dont pick the tires that are 2 inches taller and pick a nice rim... just not some pimped out, blingtastic ghetto rim....
but a nice looking rim with the right tires. And YES there are many custom rim shops that will test fit rims and tires to make sure they fit before the sale is finalized. Thats the hallmark of a reputable rim shop....not "buy it first and if it rubs, too bad"...

MOST 22's in his size range had an overall diameter of 28-29". Namely a 265F and a 285R
Please explain to me how this is only 0.5" difference from the factory 26"
My advice was stated above to TRY and keep them with in a 0.5", so your reading comprehension must be a little low.
As far as your 20" to 22" statement goes
Have a nice day, I'm done with this silliness.
Good luck with whatever you are trying to accomplish OP

Whatever there's gas in...
Damn, I was way against 22" on the 215 and 220 until I saw that CL it doesnt look AS bad as I thought...Still personally wouldn't do it though, 20" and a drop will fill the wheel well just fine!

Well, I might be too late but here's my thought.
Most people are against 22"s because it's ALL about the proportions.
On the w220's the biggest that it can go and will look perfect
are 20"s.
On the w221's however, 22"s are perfect for b/c it's big body and 20"s will look puny.
Here's my analogy. If my wife is going to get implants, being petite, DD's or EE's or whatever the measurements they call it will look like huge airbags and she'll probably keep tipping over.
Something nice and proportionate will be pleasing to the eyes
My brother's 745 runs 265/30/22 front
and 295/25/22 rear, again bigger body style.
However, the 7 can swallow the 22"s easily.
OP-you didn't mention offset. If it's too aggressive in addition to your 9.5" upfront, it'll stick way out.

I'm new here, however I would take yor car down to where you plan to purchase your tires and just have the salesman roll out a tire of whatever size you want and place it in front of the wheel position it would be mounted at to see what it looks like-no fee involved. The first number of a tire is the width in MMs (measured from the inside wall to wall on an ideal size rim for that size tire), the second number is the aspect ratio (265mm (width) X 25 = 66.25mm (hight)) and then of course the last number is the rim size. The overall size difference will not make too much of a difference in speed. I run about 1" taller tires on my truck and when checked against my GPS for speed correction I run about 2-3 mph faster at 65-70 mph. The wider tire will give you more grip/friction. Taller tires usually mean slower take offs and wider tires usually a little less gas milage-on the other hand you will be traveling faster down the road while at frwy speeds. Its the same thing (almost) as putting a taller gear in the rear end. Ride comfort will be affected also as the engineering of the vehicle is designed with tires in mind as an integral part of the suspension/ride quality, you no longer have sidewall give to aid in the luxury ride of the vehicle. Do what you want to your vehicle and report back with picks, we can all learn something from everybodys mods!

had to use spacers for the fitment ran for a while til i got tired of seeking every crack in the pavement so as not to flatten spots in the wheel from this heavy *** beast... don't do it your ball joints and lower control arms suffer terribly from this diameter wheel ... ask me how i know ...

Funny, you bumped this thread, all those supposed senior members are long gone from this site. Now that is 2023, 22s are widely accepted luxury car size. And people understand that there are 22 inch tires that are not too big and actually close to the same diameter as original.

Most people who upgrade to 22s do not buy the correct size wheels and tires, in fact, they usually buy used wheels or get some rims from their friend and try to use adapters to fit them.
