Try the wheels and tires subforum of this site. I would go with the
265/30/22 front
295/25/22 rear
but dont buy them online...buy them at a tire store and make them do a TEST FITMENT before paying so if they dont fit you can get a smaller size

To the OP:
You do realize that your overall tire diameter is going to be 1.5"-2.0" taller than before

That means your speedo will be off BAD
Your acceleration will be significantly slower
And your mileage will be in the toilet.
Just food for thought.
If you still insist on doing this:
Try to keep the overall diameter to NO MORE than 27" stock is 26.5"
Try to match the tread width to the rim width.
Please don't stretch them

Good luck

If one is going to go extreme, one really should be mature enough to take a little flak without whining. After all, it's just words, right?
"Why can't we all just ... get along?"
Damn!
Your acceleration will be significantly slower
And your mileage will be in the toilet.

To be fair, though... 22's were all the rage on wagons in the 1800's.

Those posts are pretty good responses to the OP, providing information he may not have considered - and just as importantly, information that other forum members who read this thread may not have considered.
Indeed, the target audience of a response may include more than just the individual whose query is being answered.

please, stop being so closed minded. This is the same things heard on online forums in 2002 about 20 inch rims
=
Yes there are garish chromed 22s that look bad on ANY car, but the right 22s on a benz
look better than 20s.
And MRAMG you should check facts about height difference..>IF< you select the right tires. the difference can be as little as 0.5 inches or less.
Lets look at my suggestion which you called "way too tall"..... a Sumitomo 225 60 16 is 26.8 tall
http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires....m=26WR6HTRZ2V3
A 265 30 22 Dunlop, is 27.3 inches tall
http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires....m=63ZR2SMGTXL#
Again its all about picking the right rims and tires in the 22 inch diamter, dont pick the tires that are 2 inches taller and pick a nice rim... just not some pimped out, blingtastic ghetto rim....
but a nice looking rim with the right tires. And YES there are many custom rim shops that will test fit rims and tires to make sure they fit before the sale is finalized. Thats the hallmark of a reputable rim shop....not "buy it first and if it rubs, too bad"...

MOST 22's in his size range had an overall diameter of 28-29". Namely a 265F and a 285R
Please explain to me how this is only 0.5" difference from the factory 26"

My advice was stated above to TRY and keep them with in a 0.5", so your reading comprehension must be a little low.
As far as your 20" to 22" statement goes

Have a nice day, I'm done with this silliness.
Good luck with whatever you are trying to accomplish OP

22s look stupid on the 220...period
Most people are against 22"s because it's ALL about the proportions.
On the w220's the biggest that it can go and will look perfect
are 20"s.
On the w221's however, 22"s are perfect for b/c it's big body and 20"s will look puny.
Here's my analogy. If my wife is going to get implants, being petite, DD's or EE's or whatever the measurements they call it will look like huge airbags and she'll probably keep tipping over.

Something nice and proportionate will be pleasing to the eyes

My brother's 745 runs 265/30/22 front
and 295/25/22 rear, again bigger body style.
However, the 7 can swallow the 22"s easily.
OP-you didn't mention offset. If it's too aggressive in addition to your 9.5" upfront, it'll stick way out.
Most people who upgrade to 22s do not buy the correct size wheels and tires, in fact, they usually buy used wheels or get some rims from their friend and try to use adapters to fit them.
