Finally installed the 2003 Taillights

Had a little spare time this past weekend, so I finally got around to installing my 2003 taillights.

The new lights are on the left and the old one is on the right as depicted in the picture.

The job is pretty easy and not very difficult at all.

Just remember to reinstall the padding and the circuit board from the old lights to the new lights.

I forgot to swap the circuit board, so I kept getting a bulb failure reading on the odometer computer. Once the circuit board was swapped back everything worked fine. These lights are definitely more brighter than the old ones. I think this is due to the clearer transparent lens on the 2003 style.

Total install time is about 1 hour.

im surprised that you had problems, there is no swapping required, break off the additional 2 pegs and plug and play.

I bought the entire light assembly on ebay for $300 bucks.

Included both left and right assemblies.

I am told that some of the eBay kits do not come with the proper bulbs. A minor hassle because you need to go to the dealer to buy.

The kit from ebay only came with 1 bulb on each taillight. You can swap out the bulbs from your old lights to the new lights. The smaller bulb will not fit correctly, that is why they include 1 additional bulb per side in the new kit.

I would verify all this before buying.

You do have to snap off the peg on the new kit for this to fit. Very simply and it really is plug and play.

That right there, the mutilation ( ) of the taillights would probably deter me from trying to do this myself on my aunt's S500. I'd be afraid i'd screw something up big time!
