S600 voice
S600 voice
Hi All
after many years away from mercs (last one a 420) I hAVE RETURNED TO THE FOLD WITH an s600 2002.
Its fairly well specced including phone, well phone kit, phone to be obtained shortly!
I have most of the user manuals but no voice conmmand manual.
So after a long start here is my question.
Is voice command module standard on these, how do you operate it, what will it control etc etc.
If not how can I find out if it is fit, and fit it if it is not already fit.
I have searched for a manual on line and can find most, ie all the ones I have, but not the voice one, anyone know where I can download/read one?
Thanks

The box is in the trunk to the left under the floor. It's a little black box on a bracket and it's the box closest to the left taillight. There should be wires connected to it obviously, including fiber optics. If not then it's not connected. It may very well be there and working but it won't do anything until there is a phone connected. If I hit my voice control before my bluetooth is hooked up not only will it not work but it won't work again until I turn the car off and back on and not hit it until my phone has connected... The phone connects pretty quickly but not instantly.. takes about 8 seconds..

If you have voice control, there will be a stalk on the right side of the steering column. In 2002, voice control came with the analog telephone system.
If you do not have the stalk, then you do not have the phone system installed (more than likely). You can install the Argos system (or source used factory parts to the analog system, then add a puck) and get factory bluetooth function.

stalk
oh dear three on the left, cruise washer etc and steering wheel.
Guess I do not have the voice control.
There is a phone installed though- looks factory its the nokia option-believe that was standard in europe this year? Oh and buttons on the wheel for pick up and cut off.
What is the effort needed to get the voice option installed? with or without going bluetooth.
I would really want to go voice if possible.

There is a Nokia cradle in the armrest?? If so, it must have been a retrofit. The voice modules are very inexpensive though. Module, cable, stalk - 10 minute install.
Bluetooth is a different animal, you will need to get a compatible adapter, or Argos - whichever you find easiest.

Um
seems you know what you are on about, one question left then, well several, after I check its not already partially there of course!
Anyway back to the point, is it breaker onmly for these bits or does anyone actually do a package involving all needed.
I looked at my command module book, at no point does it suggest that voice command is possible- apart from a one line bit saying consult seperate manual, no where near phone section though!
back to point need to find the bits!

You don't mention your country, but I am assuming UK? They are frequently on eBay and you may be able to find some NOS (new old stock) with a dealer. Otherwise a trip to junk yard (breaker) is in order. You can actually use one from any S, CL, SL from 2000 - 2003. They are no longer in production, but fairly easy to find.
it apears that what you have an aftermarket install (unless you are in europe then anything is possible). Im thinking if you have nokia cradle, probably for a 6310i? Although a gsm phone, does not have nearly as many features as new phones.
depending on how much you want to spend, you can change the electronincs out to use a bluetoogh. You dont need voice controll to use the phone, but it makes things much much easier when you can use voice to dial. if you dont have a phone, voice controll will work just fine if properly connected. you can still control all of your audio features, but at that point its faster to press a button your self. It is priceless when it comes to controlling a phone though.
voice control will probablly run you under 300.
contact a guy on ebay with user name cellguy85. he will tell you everything you need to know. and can build a kit with everything you need.
