Simple.
Observe what happens.
If you turn on the car and you hear the compressor working and trying to lift the shock and it doesn't go on then its the....

took the car to local guy, said yes the shock is bad, and need replace but to make it worse, he said the compressor has overworked it sell and now needs to be changed because its fryed....and certain connectors have melted?............
before i went to the shop i did press the button on dash that did lift the car, but i could hear it leaking out
when i asked the tech, if the compressor is bad, then why are the other 3 wheels still up and not sunk
he said that the system knows when there is a defect to lock the other 3 wheels at a specific level, that is why they didnt sink
does this make sense?

it was running to lift the car up, so yeah i guess it was working, but as i described above is what the guy said was also the issue along with the busted shock
i dont know if i got shafted or this is legit where the other three shocks will lock at a specific level when the system is trying to over compensate for the busted one.
the other thing i mentioned was that i didnt press the up button untill this morning when i drove it 2 miles to the shop, but the tech said the compressor is always working anyways to give air the whole system......
regardless its being worked on, i gave the ok but i asked him to get the arnott system. of shock and compressor, to save some money. i dont know if he was not thrilled with that as it is cheaper and maybe shoved in this issue of the compressor too...i dont know....
i havent been to this shop before but i was closest to location at the moment.

no i understand, whats done is done, but i want to know if that sounds reasonable, that because one shock is out, that that can lead to the compressor burning it self out.
the compressor had already been replaced at 60000miles before this incident by MB.
just wanted to get the forums thoughts on if this could be legit issue or sounds outlandish,
thanks

yes one strut leaking could burn the compressor since it will be working all the time trying to raise it
but you have to hear it to know if its dead or not and at this point you wont be able to find out since he took it out

Airmatic compressor is front passenger side by the wheelwell
Soft close pump for doors and trunk is located in the trunk
Two completely separate items in different locations of the car
