2001 s430 airmatic problem,front sitting low and small cracks on strut tops

I have an s430 which i bought a few months back.I didnt winter drive it minus 2 times, the last of which i got an error of car too low dont drive, so i immediately stopped and used the raise button to elevate the car which was enough to keep it up while i drove below 70 km/h home.When i parked the car it was fine but in the morning it was lower on the front end on both sides.when i started it,it raised back up.I asked my mechanic who specializes in mercedes what the problem was and he said it was due to the cold weather.I have read alot on the starter's page and was wondering could the cracks on the top of the struts have caused the problem?here's some pics....the first two are front left, and the last one is front right top

Start your search by using the "w220 owners start here" sticky at the top of the forum start page. The encyclopedia will answer a lot of your questions.

Here is a repair procedure from the other forum;

YouTube also has information you can search out.

The car doesn't normally sit down,in this case i think it was the cold as prior months there was no problem at all.I hear no leak either,should i get the tops changed in for new ones or should i wait it out?

Mechanical issues never "heal" themselves and go away. The fact that your front suspension went down at all means you have a problem albeit intermittent. My advice and I'm sure others would agree,is to do the repair sooner than later.

My understanding is that you can do the repair with an available kit or I have read where others have just simply used epoxy to seal the existing cracks with good results. My advise is to read all the Airmatic posts on this forum as well as Benzworld and you will find the solutions to your problem.

I am of the mind that we could have a forum just on "Airmatic" because it seems that everyone experiences issues with that system sooner or later.

thanks for the response,ill probably look into epoxy for now as the kit will be around 500.Any kit you recommend which will last longer as they're born to fail?

The epoxy fix should get you through until which time you decide to go with the forum approved Arnott Struts.

Here is a link from the "sticky Start Here" at the beginning of the posts to get you started;
