smell oil burning

Was sitting at idle yesterday and opened the door to get out I smelled what seemed to be oil. Could this be trans fluid leaking from the electrical connector seal? The last time I had an oil change there was no oil leaks only the trans seal leak.

Perhaps, but use a good light to check the cam covers for leaks. That oil usually manages to hit the exhaust manifold.

Is there any smoke from the exhaust? The color/smell should tell you. If so: http://autorepair.about.com/od/troub...TS_exhaust.htm

I am not sure on the S430 engine as I spend my time with my W211 on the E-Class forums, but a common issue on these engines (what I had experienced a few months ago) is a centrifuge cap breaking and causing a leak which, in turn, lead to the burning oil smell. Happened to another W211 driver as well, about a $300 fix at the dealer, $175 at independent.

Hope the advice I am giving is relevant to M113.

Exhaust is clean see no smoke at all internal or external which is strange. I would say that it is a light oil smell not heavy like valve, cam covers leak on manifold. Oil level is still full after 5000 miles. I'm thinking maybe tranny fluid is slow simmering below passenger compartment. Maybe exhaust is close to leak.

Centrifuge cap leaks, at least in my case, didn't smell at all because it's not an internal problem if that makes sense. It simply leaks out into the engine bay and can cause the issue you describe. No oil level change that is noticeable for the sensors. Get it check out in any case =\, your theories might be valid as well.

I might be a major idiot, I'm not sure if the 4.3 has one as I had alluded to before, but usually on some MB engines they are on the side of the block. If I have lead you down the wrong path I sincerely apologize I'm just starting to work with these engines but this is my best guess.

Here's a pic:

M113 does not have this set up, nor does it have the cheesy cam caps on the drivers side head.

and to be accurate, the centrifuge is on the head, not the block

I stand corrected. Thought it had the same setup but I was wrong, thanks.
