command upgrade 2.5 to 2.0 w220
i went to the wide screen command in my 2000 s430, the sound was worth it and it looks great, here's what you have to do. buy a command , buy trim pieces, take out old deck. make a cut in the dash. you will not use 3 plugs form old unit, you will have to change 4 pins in the c2 connector, there is no c1 plug in my car. the radio will work, cd will work, and the steering buttons will work, navi will not, you have to go to chris the swede and get his box for it to work, i will post which wires to move, its only 4 wires, it really is worth it, next upgread is blue tooth phone, its just buy parts and install,change out pins in the c2 connector, they are pin 7 to 10, 11 to 7, 15 to 8 and 16 to 9... if you want to hook up ipod or phone music. get a 3.5 mm male connector and attatch ground on pin 5 wire, right on pin 4 wire and left on pin 13 wire. it all works, thanks to all the people that i got this information from. the deck i got did not have the specific model number that the other post had, but it was from an o3 s430., blue tooth upgrade on the phone is easy, just buy parts, the updated pse is the hardest part to find.

vcm upgrade 2000 s430
upgraded vcm in car today with part number a2038208550, phone, cd, nav all work from voice, even change tracks. nav came on but i haven't tried anything else with it. no version coding was needed. $40 bucks ebay.

W220 S320
Hi corkshoppe. I need your help. I have a W220 S320 2000. I would wanna go from the old Radio tape to a command display like the one you have. I am about to get an OEM command display which comes with the plugs and wire harness. I have been reading your post but i still dont understand when you talked about C1 C2 C3, pins etc. LOL. Could you possibly show me some pics of which wires to connect? I just wanna use the radio, CD and the steering buttons but not the NAV. Since the GPS system in Thailand so sucks like hell. you could email the pics to me e_xtra@live.com thank you very much in advance!.

it looks you have 3 plugs, 1 will plug into the new unit, the other plugs you have you will only need 1, it will hook up the other stuff you want, make sure you get a unit from a 2003 s class, i will take pics for you, colours are not the same in all countires.

What exactly is the VCM? I tried looking that part number on ebay but nothing comes up.

vcm is the voice control module, if you change it from a newer w220 it will work the cd, nav phone with voice. the old antenna will not fit in the slot of old command so get one from ebay about 15 bucks and put it in the dash above the instrument cluster, if you need help email me at corkshoppe@gmail.com, i have helped a dozen people on this upgraed and theres a lot of threads on here. i got a couple tooexplaining everything, remember nav will not work until ou get a spped signal comnveter.

Thanks for the reply. I've read most of the thread regarding the retrofit. I also read about 2 people with a 2001 model not needing the speed signal converter however people that had a model year 2000 needed the converter. Any truth to this? Also is the gps antenna that I need an aftermarket antenna or is it an oem mercedes gps antenna?

i havent herd of 01 and 02 not needing the speed signal converter, but try it and see and let me know, i did one for 2002 and he did. and the antenna is not oem but works just as good!

Hey corkshoppe I emailed you but just in case you didn't get it, I finished the retrofit and everything works just fine except for the navi which is fine since I didn't get the speed signal converter just yet. I wanted to know about the GPS antenna. Which antenna am I supposed to be looking for? I see quite a few on ebay but I'm not sure which one to get. Any help here?
Also where is the vcm module on a facelift car? I ask because I plan on going to the junk yard and looking for one to upgrade my system but I'm not sure where to look.

Sorry for the thread revival guys, i'm just in a bind here and would appreciate some help with my Comand 2.5 retrofit in my 2002 W220. I had the Becker 30 and am currently installing a Comand 2.5 (4:3) Stereo works, amp works, steering control works, cluster info works, radio turns off and on with the key, however i have no backlight. I can see very faintly some text on the screen but its as if there is no backlight. Any advice on what i did wrong or havent connector properly?
