2001 S430 OIL IN TCM , LEAKING FROM WIRING HARNES AKA DATA LINE
HEY SO MY 2001 MERCEDES S 430 HAS A FEW ISSUES RIGHT NOW , THE TCM WAS FOUND FILLED WITH TRANSMISSION OIL , BY THE DEALER , I NEVER HAD AP ROBLEM WITH IT BEFORE BUT NOW SINCE THE DIAGNOSIS MY CAR WONT GO PAST 30 MILES AN HOUR AND THE RPMS ARE REALLY HIGH , I TRIED CLEANING THE TCM AND DRYING IT OUT AS BEST AS I COULD BUT NO HELP , THEN I INSPECTED THE DATA LINE CONECTOR TO THE TCM AND FOUND IT WAS LEAKING FROM THERE I CLEANED THAT CONNECTION AS WELL AND STILL NO GOOD RESULTS
I WILL BE REPLACEING THE TCM AS WELL AS THE TRANSMISSION CONTACT PLATE , BUT HOW WILL ISTOP THE LEAK SO THAT THE OIL WONT RUIN THE NEW TCM AND CONTACT PLATE ? ANY ONE WHO CAN HELP ME I WOULD GREATLY APPRICIATE IT , AND ALSO IM NOT SURE IF THEY CAN RE FLASH A USED TCM AT MERCEDES ? IT COMES WITH A ONE YEAR WARRANTY SO PLEASE ANY SUGGESTION ? I LOVE MY MERCEDES BUT I AM A STUDENT IN AN ENTRY LEVEL MECHANIC SCHOOL AND NEED ALL THE HELP I CAN GET !!!!

yoy probbly wont need to replace the tcm, take it out clean it with maf cleaner and let it dry, get a new connector and you can replace it your self and save a bundle, i did my c240 and now going to do my s class. i got parts from autohauz . take of covers under car , tkae out the connector with a deep socket and and put in the new one. make sure you use jack stands, it took me about an hour. (yet another poor german design issue) sorry, to take out the contact plate, you will remove the tranny cover 8 or 10 bolts.and the plate will be there take it out put in new one and rebolt. the new connector is not suppossed to leak again. get a dipstick on ebay 25 bucks so you can check tranny fluid, because you will lose some about 2 quarts i put in. there is a video on youtube and alot on info on here, thats how i fix my cars!

thanks a lot guys I already cleaned the TCM with BRAKE CLEANER , should I try MAF cleaner ? and cleaned the connection , to the transmission and the car is still in limp mode , I am in mechanics school so I have access to a lift everyday , thanks again for the tips ill keep you posted ! and hey how much was the new connector ?

about 150 for plate, filter and gasket, and connector, you can do it your in school. its a little messy. your ecm is fine you need to change the plate and connector.

Hope it is as easy as the other made it sound. My issue called for repairs to my automated trunk controls (which were affected by the leak), fixing the leak, replacing TCM, and later replacing the tranny (which was acting after TCM replacement), then the TQ converter was seized on the tranny, so the TQC was replaced as well. All in all it was a very expensive job that was covered under extended warranty (Fidelity) and took over a month to fix.

The connection to the wire doesn't Evan look wet right now

Mercedes is saying 270$ for the contact plate , 15$ for the connector , and i can get a used TCM for 320 $ , maybe i should try the contact plate and connector first ?

Hey so you were right corkshoppe , after I replaced the contact plate and the connector I clean the tcm with electrical cleaner and the car has been running good ever since , thanks for the advice and sorry for the late progress report

Your problem is with the bushing which connects the cable which comes from the ECU and links into the transmission. It s a common problem with most MB transmissions. It is a well known problem within MB circles. They have colour coded this bushing so that when the vehicle is back in an MB workshop they will know from the colour code when that bushing was last replaced. It s amazing that they have not been able to correct this very problem over the years . It has lead to many heart aches for MB car owners such as myself, I mean of course transmission problems , which they are so quick to deny. I sued and won!
See my thread under R230 SL where I have set out the history of my case and see also my thread next to it which deals with their attempt to interfere with my witness.

Philip that is awesome ! I thought about going to court over it but thought I could never win I know there was nothing wrong with the transmission when I brought it to the dealership

you might be off by a hair , that's what my problem was go back and make sure that the wiring harnesss in connected to the contact plate in side of the transmission oil pan , every thing has to be lined up perectly for it to start
