storage compartment underneath radio

Hello, I'm driving a 2001 S 500.

I'm trying to change the compartment shown in the picture above because the lid hangs down on mine. The new compartment got 2 screws (as pointed on the picture). As much as I know are these two screws the only one holding the whole thing in place.

Does anyone know how to change this compartment and how I get to the 2
screws?

Thanks in advance
Chris

i have no clue how that goes together, but if thats where the screws are, you'll likely need to remove the wood shifter surround.

That's my guess too. But the screws are underneath the tan leather part, the extern console. Exactly where the arrow points at. Doesn't look like I can bend it far enough to get them whiteout removing the whole center console

I don't have a digital camera so I have to take screenshots from the internet. Maybe the following pictures will show a better angle on the screws:

I would think that at a minimum you would have to remove the cover around the gear shift lever. The screws are probably hidden under there.

I actually had to remove to complete center console, what was actually really easy.

There are plenty of pictures how to take the arm rest/ center console out but here is the link: ]www.benzworld.org/forums/attachments/w220-s-class/407533d1320535713-armrest-removal-w220_center_console_removal.pdf

After you take out the whole thing you can unscrew the compartment from the bottom.
