2004 S600 -- Take car with75k miles with no maint records or 100k with maint records?

Same price... would you take a 2004 S600 with no maintenance records (Dealer trade-in car) and 75k miles or 99k miles and maintenance records?

Depends if you can verify the 75k mileage. If there are no records, it may be becuase its really 175k miles.

Not the documents are any guarantee. Use your nose and tread carefully.

I assume these things have 6-digit odometers given they are made in 2004... Now there could be fraud I suppose but I doubt thats the case.

Depending on your use for the vehicle, that would ultimately determine my decision. If you plan on driving the vehicle on a daily basis I would advise questioning everything as if you were walking on egg shells. However if you're soley looking forward to a project vehcile dont mind every little detail because chances are you'll make alterations and upgrades anyways replacing the things they fail to mention.

2002 S430
Take a good look at those maintenance records for the 100k car. It may have gone thru many expensive repairs which tend to come up between 75k and 95k. I do not really know the 600, but I bought my 430 with 71k and now with 108K it is way better car (changed air struts, instrument cluster, steering rack, several suspension parts, engine mounts, fixed gear box etc).
All in all, the higher mileage may be the better deal.

Records matter! If the car was cared for, it will serve you well. If it was neglected, it will vacuum out your wallet faster than any other car.

Take the one with good records over the unknown.

Run the vins at any MB dealer to check for the big things that are required every 100k or 10 years.

1. Changed out coil packs plus plugs, $3,000
2. Changed tranny fluid
3. Changed ABC fluid and filters
4. Changed Brake fluid

There are MANY maintenace items for this car. If you can't find the above, RUN Forest Run

Check over ALL service reords. If the car has none, then I would run, LOL

The one at 75k is unknown. Good point to check for records but the dealer that has it just took it in on trade and knows little about the special nature of the car. It drove fine.


Neither are going to have coil packs. It's not a maintenance item and if it ain't broke they won't fix it.

The one with records has all the standard items done when presented for a and b service at a dealer with no declines. So 2,3,4 would be done only if it's in the maint manual. Unfortunately the s600 has a special maint supplicant that is not on mbusa.com
