M2Pro installation guidance needed
Got hold of the M2 pro from mObridge. But now I don't have any idea how to go about installing it. There are no videos on YouTube showing how to install it. If anyone here has any experience I seek your help. Thank you.
Just remember this: The fiber optic signals travel around a loop containing the various components...CD changer, XM radio, navi, phone etc. Each component has an optical in and optical out. Each component must pass the light along to the next component. If not, nothing on the loop functions. If a component is removed from the loop and the connection isn't closed off with a bypass, nothing works. If any component has no power, nothing works.
You'll be bypassing the CD changer in the trunk, "tricking" COMAND into thinking the Mobridge is the CD Changer. You have a little bypass adapter in your install kit. It just snaps on to the factory CD changer connector and closes the loop.
COMAND needs to come out. There are tutorials for that somewhere. Very easy...one #20 Tork bit does everything. You need to tap power and ground for the Mobridge from the existing COMAND wiring harness (thick brown wire is power), and then install the Mobridge into the optical loop. That involves disconnecting the optical connector from COMAND, removing the orange optical cables from the connector, and re-orienting the cables so that the MoBridge is now part of the loop. The MObridge can be laid flat and pushed to the very rear of the dash cavity. Then button it back up and you're good to go.
It takes me around 4 hours to do one. Just go slow, and follow instructions (which suck BTW) It's a little unnerving having your COMAND out but there's not much you could do to damage it. Just make sure the power and ground connections are secure and taped off. It may take some trial and error as far as the optical cable orientation so just keep playing around until everything lights up and the car is happy.

Mike,
I haven't done this, and you may be correct - but the DIN Standard for electrical wiring color (which Mercedes follows) says that brown is always ground (earth).

I'm a new member and this is my first post.
I recently had two M2.Pro MOST units professionally installed - one on a 2004 S600 and they other in a 2006 R500.
On the S600, the phone integration works, but the data does not synchronize with the 'TEL' function on the COMAND system. I can place and recieve calls using my phone to input, but not via the COMAND interface. The COMAND system says 'Tel not inserted'.
Any ideas how I can fix this?
The unit in the R500 seems to be working with no issues.
Mobridge's site has a video of this working perfectly with a 2004 MB - I'm hoping there is something I can tweak.
Thanks in advance for any suggestions.
Scott
