Memory Seats...
Hey people, I have a 02 S430. I was just wondering if anyones seat moves back when the take the key out the ignition???I had a C320 loaner and the seats moved back when I took the keys out of the ignition. It basically makes getting out of the car easier. Does anyone else have this feature?

I have an SL500 on order right now. It comes with this feature as well, but I do understand that it is dependent on the location of the seat when the key is removed. Meaning, if the seat is almost back all the way it is less likely that you'll notice any movement because the seat doesn't have far to go, if anywhere at all.

It does go back
I have an 02 s430 and the seat does go back in addition to the steering column lifting when the car is turned off but I had to have that programmed by the dealership. An unrelated repair to the seat after that and it disappeared again. Havent taken it back to fix yet. My guess is that it is not the "default setting " in the computer.

ps: when this push back occurs it may push the seat so far back that your feet cant comfortably get to the brake to press it while starting up (which is before the seat returns to driver normal) so you might trade one problem for another - beware

thanks for your replies... one more question... we all have 2 keys.. let say I have my setting saved onto key 1. and another family member has their setting saved onto key 2. when you
unlock the doors are the seats and mirror adjust to you the setting in your keys?

yeah i wonder that to.Becuse in my car i have to sit down and push the 1 or 2 button to change the seats and mirrors etc.So my car doesnt change anything before i push the buttons.But i know that every key has its own set of memorys.So if someone knows how to make the car change the settings when you open it tell me.

Memory on both keys is different
The memory on each of the keys is different. You have to program the settings with each key in turn. When you start the car the settings will go to the 1 position programmed to that key. I guess you have it programmed so that driver 1 is always button one on the panel and so on. That way it stays in the original position until you press button 2. At least thats the way it works on mine. It gets a little complicated when you have keyless go and both keys are in the car - fooled it!!

Gunther is correct on how the seat works, however don't get too attached to that feature. I have an '03 S430 and have had it back to the dealer several times. The feature stops working after so many ignition starts. They have replaced the seat module now, and it doesn't work at all.
The tech told me the parameters used to trigger the seat movement reduce by one "notch" after each key entry for some strange reason. Therefore, when the seat parameters get too narrow, it won't work at all.
MB has no solution yet.

On my SL500, you have to go into the computer and tell it that you want the setting for the memory seat to be active. In addition, you have a choice of:
1. Not activated
2. Steeering Wheel only
3. Steering Wheel and Seat
Also, again through the computer, key recognition, which will make the car reset the seat for the driver depending on the key being used. I THINK it's called key dependency or something like that.

Buddy...dig out that manual that came when you bought the car. It's about an 1/2" to 3/4" thick. Look in the back on memory seats...or steering wheel controls. It will tell you EXACTLY how to access the menu through the steering wheel controls to reset the memory seats.
All in all, it should take you about 5-10 minutes.
