Car takes 5-10 seconds to start
My car takes 5-10 seconds to start sometimes. In the past 3 months. It has done it twice. What could be the problem? It just cranks as if nothing is happening, then suddenly it starts. Got a new battery 5-6 months ago.

Check the fuel pressure at the injector rail schrader valve.

Might be a crank position sensor getting bad although they are usually an all or nothing
Start /no start symptom

S-series 2003 S500 4matic
Change the fuel filter for $40 and thank me later. If it was a sensor, it would be cam position sensor if not starting when cold, crank position sensor when not starting when hot.

Just change the fuel filter, kruat56 gave great guidance, but if you don't want to diagnose, replace the filter, I bet you will quickly fix your issue.

I see 52 PSI at the schrader valve. Is that a bit high? It should be 40 PSI I think. The car is fine when it's started, WOT no problem.

Is the fuel filter replacement hard? I don't have that much time on hands right now.

The car only had a hard crank twice. I can't reproduce it. Both times were at my work parking lot.
