2000 s430 Suspension question

My question is as follows. After about day of not driving and parked in the garage, i noticed that the rear of the car is lower than the front. I can correct that when i either open the door or start the car, rear will rise. I never noticed this before that the rear is lower than the front and it seems to be level to the front when i park it. When i return is when i noticed the difference. Is this something i should worry about. Thanks in advance.

Sounds like you need new hydropneumatic struts and compressor. Just had mine done.

It might be a common problem with the 220 but it certainly isn't normal. This problem never occurs on my S class. There could be a leak in the air suspension. Hopefully your car is still under warrantee. I'd give it to Mercedes and let them resolve the problem. Good luck.

well, i mean, how low is it suppose to sit? Can you take a pic of your w220 when it's just sitting outside/inside? I want to compare. It's not low so that it's over the tire, got about 1/2-1 thumb space between the rear tire and the fender...

thanks man.

the rising is normal after you open the door(s) and/or start the car. It'll lower itself after you have shut all the doors and engine off after you get out.

If you click the link in my signature you'll find a good number of pics. The first page shows my car off (pre-installation of the lowering kit) The third or fourth page shows my car after the install. All pics are with the car off, but when it is turned on it's raised by no more than .25" - .50". Hope that helps.

Every time I would lock or unlock my car it would make hissing noises and raise and lower itself, so I took it to the dealer and they replaced the front hydropneumatic struts and compressor. Now it makes no noise and only raises and lowers when I push the height button or drive at high speeds (it lowers itself a bit).

i assumed the hissing noise was normal because the suspension was releasing the air to lower the car? the lowering and rising of the car when locked/unlocked is normal.

if its not normal...oy vey.

Dealer said it was not normal. Since they replaced the mentioned parts, it no longer makes the noise or goes up and down, only when I press the height button.

hmmm...I'll inquire about it when it goes for service (soon) but it's been doing that since the day we got it, so we figured it was part of the suspension system. Did they change anything from 2000 to 2001 cuz MB did have a lot of problems with the 2000 w220 suspension systems...

Hey Guys,...I have S430 with airmatic suspension...Is it normal for the car to make hissing noise and then rise after starting the car like 30 sec to 1 mins of the car running. Also it lower itself and balancce normal after you have shut all the door(s) and engine off after you get out.
I had mine suspension changed on driver side cos it sometimes goes down completely and the body is sitting right on the tire. After changing the suspension with Arnot suspension, I noticed it doesn't do the hissing noise and rising anymore and the car balanced up but if I pressed the rise button on the dash it will rise. So back to my question was it normal for the hissing noise and rise b4 I changed my suspension or was it cos it was leaking air that was the cause of the hissing noise and rising?.

I will greatly appreciate any information or ideas on this issue.

Thank you all.

It can be normal. Especially if you park on an uneven surface thats not level, many w220s have been known to drop while parked to attempt to level

2001 S430
Hey guys, I'm seriously in need of my fellows BENZ owners & experienced Benz technicians in this forum. I havd 2001 S430, few weeks back I had suspension problems on the driver side which I bought Arnott suspension to replaced it, 3 wks after it was replaced, It went down again which I got a replacement from Arnott suspension, we installed that but that was damaged/leaking, So I returned it back to the company "Arnott" and got a replacement the next day delivery; by the way that's the third suspension. Now, after that was installed yesterday which I started my car and everything came up fine but I noticed few minutes later that both the driver side and the back on the driver side bent which basically means all my passenger side are OK/UP while the driver side and back side of the driver side bent to a side. I pushed the button on the dash it shows the vehicle is RISING and once I turn OFF the button the side went down again and my PUMP is working fine. No sign of leaking on the suspension that I replaced on the driver side. Meanwhile, If I pressed the rise button b4 I replaced the front driver side all other 3 will rised up except for the front driver side that was bad. Please, at this point am very fraustrated with this car, Is there any FUSEe that need to be checked since both front and back driver side bent one side?
Any suggestions will great appreciated pls.

Thanks you all.

I have a problem today i got into my car a after pulling out my driveway.I was going down my street and my car felt as if it had a flat. But when i checked everything was fine but however i did notice that the rear was raised much higher the usual. It feels like the suspension in the rear is filled to the max with air.Has anyone had this problem?
