The cheapest and easiest way is to purchase a bluetooth adapter that plugs into the cigarette lighter socket and hooks to your phone, then broadcasts the signal to a selectable FM frequency on your radio.

The most expensive, most complicated way is to replace the COMAND unit with an new android head unit. That will give you bluetooth, a much superior GPS nav system, etc., etc.

I installed a device from GROM that works pretty well. It is spliced into the optical link and replaced a the CD changer.

Don't you lose the factory amp which drives the subwoofer since the android head unit can only do 4 channels?

I believe this is the link to the device you are referring to. But isn't the price a little salty?

I have the GROM unit in a Land Rover and an Audi and I have been mostly satisfied. My problem is that I am looking for a similar device for a 2003 S500 and I am, coming up with absolutely nothing. Has anyone found a Bluetooth product for this single year ******* of a COMAND? No, it doesn’t have the UHI in the arm rest.

You can fit the armrest electronics from a salvage car . But that only gives you Bluetooth to make calls not to stream music

Compared to the other options like the Dension Gateway and the NavTV Opti-1, *no*, the price is *not* salty.
If you sign up for email alerts with GROM, they will send you notice of sale events which happen many times a year. I picked up my MST-4 on a Thanksgiving week sale.

I recently installed mine in my 2005 S500 4MATIC, and the Bluetooth and USB audio work great. I'm having trouble with the analog AUX audio, but I suspect it might be an extension cable I added to it, and I should have that worked out soon.

Installation of the GROM MST-4 was simple at the trunk end of things where it connects to the fiber-optic loop in place of the CD changer. The car thinks it is dealing with the CD changer, so you have good control of the GROM MST-4 from the existing head unit. Getting the cables for the USB, analog AUX, and Bluetooth microphone into the cabin was a little challenging. I took out all the seats in the car and pulled up the carpet on the driver's side and removed the center console. I added USB and analog AUX extension cables to the GROM cables (which are add-ons that you have to buy separately). I ran the cable bundle into the cabin through the driver's side along with the existing cable bundle in the car, and ran the cables inside the plastic cable-channel under the carpet (which carries both wires and air-line tubes). Mine exit the channel right next to the midpoint on the center console and I drilled a hole through the base of the inside of the center console armrest compartment so the USB and AUX cables live inside the armrest. I ran the microphone up to the front of the center console and have it temporarily snaking up the dash, but will run it under the dash trim when I get around to removing it. My plan is to mount the microphone on the top of the non-moving part of the steering column, so I can talk at it right through the steering wheel.

Honestly, compared to the other gadgets available, the GROM Audio MST4 is in my opinion the best integrated and most affordable solution that is direct-wired. You can go with FM adapters, but. . . please don't.
