2001 S600 Crank Position Sensor
The WIS software says the intake manifold must be removed, but I have seen threads online saying it doesn't have to come off.
Anyone familiar with this job on this model? Thanks!
You need a long 1/4 " extension and a universal with the socket to reach it.
Since you don't want to drop the bolt, you need to be a bit inventive (magnet or sticky stuff).
It's on top of the the engine just above the flywheel,
Do you know it is bad?
Good luck!

Also, the car will not start again until it cools down for a couple hours. I believe that's a sign of a bad CPS also.
They crammed a V-12 in there I guess that's all that mattered at the time.
I searched the WIS and couldn't find the part called "inlet cover" or anything with a name like that.
Are you referring to the part that is directly behind the throttle body that splits the intake air into a Y with one branch going to the left cylinders, and the other to the right side? I'm sorry if this is a stupid question, but I just want to be sure I don't take off the wrong part. Thanks.

Put the hood up into the full maintenance position, remove the engine (air filter) cover, and then lean all the way over the back of the engine.
down there, just forward of the bell housing joint, is the crank pos sensor.

I cannot tell you how great they are! Much more secure than a magnet insert, or my old standby, the piece of blue masking tape.
