Rearview Mirror broke interanlly somehow
Is a replacement unit the only/best option? Are these expensive? Are there different versions/part numbers to look out for?

Expensive? New, yes - very. Our pull-a-part charges $3 for them - so I bought two.
Yes, there are quite a few different interior mirrors. Some years have memory settings, some have auto-dimming, some don't, some have no mike, some have one mike, some have multiple mikes. And, of course, there are several colors.
Have you taken yours apart yet? Maybe it's fixable with a few 3D printed gears?
The mirror (actual glass mirror) is held onto the manipulating mechanism by two metal spring/pressure plates held in by clips in the outside plastic:

As you can see, my top tabs (on the bottom of the image) are broken making the whole thing loose.
What I ended up doing was drilling two small holes into the plastic, and then used a metal wire that held together a bundle of spinach I bought earlier at the grocery store. (You know what they wrap like bunches of vegetables in? Those metal wires that often have paper attached to them? Those. I took off the paper with my needlenose pliers).
The spinach I made into soup and salad for anyone wondering.
Anyway, I then ran that wire from the outside into the housing and twisted the two ends together so that the spring bracket could sneak in snugly but firmly:

The bottom clips (at the top of the image) weren't broken, and hopefully won't break. Time will tell, if they do break I can repeat the process for the other side.
Feeding the wires from the outside leaves only a small harmless bit of wire protruding:

P.S. Removing the rearview mirror is a weird process. Just watch this video here:
To get it back in requires a LOT of force. Slide one side in first and push the other side.
You also have to disconnect a bunch of wires which are underneath the overhead panel. To disconnect that, first remove the plastic lens coverings for the light bulbs, then use a flathead to unpin the 4 tabs.
