Obviously you have never done the research on reliability ratings between Mercedes and Lexus, and obviously you have never driven a Lexus to realize the reason why it is less problematic than a Mercedes

Less problematic perhaps, but not very exciting to drive. Gave the wife a new 2004 LS430 Modern Luxury as an anniversary present in February. Never a problem with it, but she found our '04 Acura MDX Touring more fun to drive, believe it or not!! The Lexus' steering just felt disconnected. As a result, she took over the MDX and urged me to trade the Lexus in on something I wanted - ergo the '05 E55. Between the LS430 & E55, there's no contest for me, even with the price premium. YMMV

The engine hasn't changed. But the options available have. You've got the new headlights, tail-lights. And little things such as the sun shade in the back which I love.

dumbass

Let me put this simple, EclassOzz, you are an idiot. Let me get this straight you could easily find the difference between the s430 and s500 on the Mercedes-Benz website and research it yourself, but you want us to do it for you ?

Please dont give me this BS i have a 2002 GS430 and even though you have your wife the LS430 as a gift which i doubt you did it could never be beaten by a freakin MDX the LS was given the best car award in 2002 amongst Bentley's and S classes i also have a 2001 S500 and i find my GS handles alot better so dont give me the bullcrap about an MDX being better then a LS430 coz it would never sell

S550 / S430 / E320
Having owned both a 2002 and a 2004 S430, I am probably more qualified to answer your question. There were a lot of problems in the 2000 – 2002 model that were corrected in the current model that went into production in 2003. Although visually similar, the refinements make the newer model a significantly better car. There are hundreds of changes that you only appreciate when you have owned both. Some of the more notable items – Significant upgrade in interior trim quality. This not only makes the look and feel of the inside of the car a lot nicer, it also got rid of the annoying squeaks and rattles that caused by the cheapness of the older interior trim. The front seats were redesigned and are more comfortable. The Comand system is much improved. It has a larger screen, more functionality, and the navigation system uses one disk for the whole country. It also works with voice control for destination input. Electronics are upgraded – more messages in the instrument cluster, mirrors will automatically fold, the passenger headrest will automatically go down if no one is sitting in the seat, etc. The 7G makes the car more responsive and you get better gas mileage. Chrome door sills, entry lighting in the mirrors, 18” wheels, larger AC compressor, xenon high beams, Ceramiclear clearcoat (10 times harder than the old paint), even the pull for the trunk floor is better quality. Avoid the 2000 - 2002 model years. I've had my 2004 for almost a year now. The only problems I had were software bugs in the Comand system and they have all been resolved.
