How do you guys play CD's

........I am interested in a 2002 S55. I have one question. How do you Pre-2003 S-class owners play CD's. Do you have to stop your car and go into the trunk each time you want to change a CD? What if it is raining. I am a bit confused since learning that the S-class Comand is incapable of playing CD's.
This can't be true. Is it?

...........thanks for your response. I play a lot of cd's in my car. I perfectly understand that not everyone cares about this feature. My suprise is at MB. I really do not understand how they make their decisions. Here is the flag ship car without an in dash cd player. But has a phone, voice comand, etc.

yea the indash cd is meant for the navigation Cd and then the trunk has a cd tray with a capacity of 6 cds that u can switch from inside of your car through the command system. frankly ted i also have a lexus with an indash 6 cd and compared with the 6 cd tray in the trunk of the mb its not really that big of a difference...they are both the same i mean 6 cds is ample for a road trip ;-)

I agree with Ted, trunk mounted cd-changer is a PAIN!
But well... MB is historically slow on high-tech equipment adoption (probably one of the reason not to upset they previous owners ), even on their flagship model .
So on option is to get DVD based COMAND with in-dash CD changer retro-fitted (very expensive update).
Another option is to get 12-Disc (or even with MP3 capability) changer with FM frequency trasmitter and have 2 disc changers (haven't seen any S-Class owners who did it).

your right DMI just like you said..its very expensive to get those done and like said before i beleive that 6 discs are adequate 12 is simply too much but you know what sony has a 200Cd tray for its jukebox so it never stops..

changer install

I have a fiber optic cd changer in a 2004.5 c class that I am removing from the vehicle due to an indash dvd/nav headunit install and am wondering if it will work in my 2000 S430. I did take a look in the trunk under the mat and it looked like the only plug in the trunk was a coaxial cable. Is that coaxial cable for something else and perhaps I did not looked hard enough for the other cables or am I out of luck.

Ipod Integration with COMAND for MP3

See the telematics forum at https://mbworld.org/forums/audio-electronics/93278-dension-ice-link-plus-mercedes-ipod-integration-install-review.html

Awiner and I have done iPod installations in our CL55 and S500 (D2B bus) using Dension's IceLink integration and Tom from Dension has several posts responding to questions and referencing availability for MOST bus cars as well as answering other questions.

The Dension integration makes the iPod as controllable from the steering wheel, from the COMAND buttons, and through voice command as your Mercedes CD player is, and it displays playlist number and song number on your COMAND and instrument cluster displays. Awiner and I have both mounted our iPods in the center console, out of sight when the car is parked.

You can also read an extensive writeup on my installation at http://www.benzworld.org/publications/pub.asp?id=330

And in the first link, Adam (awiner) has done an excellent job with his installation. Don't miss these posts if you're interested in an iPod installation.
