Mystery part in front left of engine bay (picture identification mystery)

Found in the front left of the engine bay, W215 CL-Class, M275 V12 engine.

It looks like some sort of vent device or one-way valve?

That looks very much like the two plugs I just got for my water pump.

Woah. I'm chasing a mystery coolant leak right now. Pressure tested the system and found nothing.
Do you have a part # or anything else?

It is definitely some sort of one-way valve that relieves positive pressure

More pictures:

It looks like the plastic clips holding it in the middle broke off causing it to pop out.
Maybe a part from the radiator? An air valve? I just pressure tested and vacuum tested the cooling system and found no issue.

That looks very close, but the top on mine is flat. Checking pictures of the pump on eBay I don't see one for the M275 engine.

But it must be something. I looked hard and couldn't find anything in the suspicious area; granted it's cramped in there.

Maybe someone was messing with you, or maybe it fell off a car on the road and your car picked it up ? Very strange.

I think it might be off the cooling fan for the radiator. It is a vent for the ECU that drives the fan, mounted on the fan pack.

So Volvo uses the same exact part? Since someone used image search and found a Volvo part.

Actually, answering my own question, aam not surprised, for example Volvo uses the same vacuum pump for turbocharged engines so the brands do have the same OE/supplier for various parts and so does Ford: https://mbworld.org/forums/w212-amg/...ve-repair.html

most cars use parts from major suppliers like Bosch , Valeo etc . Mercedes doesn’t make everything specific to Mercedes only

thats why the same Bosch fuel injection system of the 1990s was found in rolls Royce , Ferrari , Mercedes , Porsche etc

That I understand but didn't know they share parts across so many brands.

There is a huge universe of "parts" manufacturers. There will be a dozen companies that make plastic plugs and caps for the industry, and no auto manufacturer will make their own, just as one example. Just for fun and education, google plug and cap manufacturer.

Not yet, this is off a parts fan that I fried with water.
I'm going to look when I get the next opportunity but am not currently in a rush.
