2003 Mercedes S600
2003 S600 Command radio replacement
Looking to replace this since the screen is blurry and CDs get stuck. I have it all ready to come out, but before I unplug it, do I need to know the code just in case, and also need the code for the replacement?
Also, is there a good source for these, or check junkyards?

No code needed for the COMAND unit.
Do you have the two removal tools?
Are you aware of the new Android units that will fit and look like stock, but greatly update your electronics at very reasonable prices?

Hi Wally, thanks for responding. I am not aware of any tools, the radio is pretty much out, just needs unplugging.
I did some research on aftermarket units and it seemed like a big no, due to the fiber optics and built in amps.
Are there new ones that allow the use of these or are they still bypassed? I checked crutchfield and it seemed the same way.

No special tools required - I was thinking of the instrument cluster.
You can buy an adapter to change the signal from electrical to optical, but most folks think that they give poor sound quality. To get top sound quality you have to run an optional cable from the new head unit to the left rear fender area.
For many folks, the new Bluetooth capabilities are a major factor, with Google Maps/Waze, music streaming, etc., etc.

If you mean the cable from the new head unit to the rear fender speaker connections, you don't need both the fiber optic adapter and the cable to the rear.

i like to keep things original and recommend just an original comand replacement unit
but they make these little android tables that suction to the wall. amazing fm transmitter, bluetooth, google maps, all android features for 50$ or so. no cables required
