This is already the second E-Zpass I got replace from MTA. It doesn't seems to work with S550's Windshield. Anyone else live in NY area with E-Zpass tag that actual work inside S550?

I was told that the internal EZ-Pass will not function properly due to the coating on the windshield on my 2004 S500. Some have stated there is a non coated area somewhere on the windshield that will allow the "pass" to work, but I could not locate that area. I finally had the black exterior ez-pass mounted in the black mesh of the lower grill. It works fine and no one notices it.

LOL...there is no "secret" area...the manual clearly shows the several locations you can place it.

When you look at the windshield with the right angle and light, you can see a grid pattern in two different areas on the windshield. I but some temporary tape in each corner of this grid when I mounted my radar dector, so I knew for sure it would be in the clear.

Jack, your information is always useful! You must spend a lot of time studying the S550. Thank you for passing this on.
I am looking forward to read your comments once you have driven, for a while, your new S550.
Best regards,
PeterM.

Thanks Peter. I read the information pretty thoroughly...but I sometimes I have a problem remembering where I saw something. The manual in pdf is nice with the index and subject headings....makes it much easier to find specific references.

I will be posting many images and some narrative (hopefully all positive) after delivery. I plan on picking the car up in Denver and then driving to SC, FL and MS and back to LV. A total of about 6000 miles. If Apple would come out with their new iBook in April, I will buy one and use that to post along the way, otherwise I will be out of contact for about 4 weeks.

Have a safe trip through your beautiful country! I am a bit old to understand modern technology such as iBook; but I can assure you, I will follow the resulting posts.
Best regards, PeterM.

NJ, I wonder if you ever found info on the locations on your S430. I have an 06 S55, and have only been able to find one spot--down at the bottom of the windshield and offset to the right, right above the end of the left wiper. I don't really care for this location, but it is the only place I have found where my radar detector works properly.

I looked all through my manual and could not find any info.

Thanks.

A little diagram is in the manual for the S430. I saw it but will have to hunt for it. I post when I locate it. I know there is more than one spot.

License plate mount
Get a license plate mounted transponder. I have it on our SL 500 and the 7. I'll transfer it onto the S550LE when I get it. You dont even notice it and you dont have to have that ugly white box stuck on your windshield! Just my $.02!!

I can almost see NYC...
but it costs more in tolls than fuel to get there! EZpass has been a god send, no more change, tokens, tickets, or greenbacks to exchange!

Thanks... I must have missed that page in the manual.

My detector doesn't seem to work very well up by the mirror, so I will have to continue to use the lower spot.

It's a transponder that allows you to pay toll roads without having to stop to give cash or get change back. Charges are deducted from a credit card you use to sign up.
