Maserati or S550?

Hey guys - ive been on the forum for a long but mainly just reading no posting. But now the time has come and the lease on the s500 is ending soon. My new favorite car is the maserati quattroportte and i like the s550 a little too. What are your guys opinions. I am a little biased towards the mercedes becuase i have been loyal to them for 10+ years, but am looking for something more fun and luxurious. The price does not really concern me with the maserati. I hear though depreciation hits the quattro a lot very soon. Is maserati coming out with any improvements for the quattro too? Thanks guys

I like Maserati as much as the next guy, but it is a ferrari product and therefore, reliability is a big question. For me, the car should start up everytime I want it to not when it decides too.

I have on order a S550 with AMG sports pak (july delivery) to dirve 6 months of the year and the other 6 months I have a Aston vantage being delivered this fall. Hopefully the vantage will be as reliable as it is said to be, I cancelled my 911 turbo order for that car.

For me, I don't have the time for stupid little electrical glitches. If we can afford cars of this caliber then why should we have to be at the mercy of the car? Right?

Before you decide, make sure you drive the Quattroporte, and read this:

http://car-reviews.automobile.com/ne...-gearbox/1779/

My dad has a Quattroporte, and when he bought it, it was described as an automatic with manual shift paddles. He also noticed the shifting was a little rough, but was told that it was because it's new, it'll "break in" and learn how he likes to drive. After about 8 months, he still can't drive and drink his coffee at the same time-- the shifting is too jerky!

Now, Maserati has acknowledged it's an automatically shifting manual (?), and they'll be coming out with a true automatic. Unfortunately, it's too late for my dad, and he's looking to trade it in with no depreciation for a 2007 automatic, or seek legal action for misrepresentation. Or he's going to get an S-class again.

Other than the transmission, it's a beautiful car!

Get the S550.

What the re-working of the Quattroporte is going to accomplish - and whether or not Maserati is going to still make them - is all in question....

Go with the S550 - known quantity.

My friend's mom's Maserati spends half the time in the shop, and half the time in the street. Unless reliability is no issue, go with the Mercedes.

If I were to spend 100k on a vehicle and it gave me as many problems as the Maserati has been known to give, I would be outraged. What fun is a car if you can't drive it enough to enjoy it?

I'm with Ricky on this one...Go with the Maserati. I've seen a few here and it is a beautiful car...plus you have the exclusivity factor. For me, when I see all the chauffer driven cars sitting in front of Bear Sterns, The S550 blends in with the majority of cars lined up whereas the Maserati stands out just as much as that next level of cars like an RR or Maybach.

I say go for the S550 because the Quattroporte's look doesn't do it for me. But if you like the styling, then it's another story.

Too bad too many wrong people bought the Masers for the wrong reasons.
Nothing wrong with it's tranny ,it's the same type as in BMW M and Ferraris, great transmission, way more fun then the slushbox,as long as the owner accepts the fact it's a Manual with no clutch.
Driven properly, there is no jerkiness and no performance losses like in transmissions with torque converters.
There is a conventional Automatic coming for 2007 but it will just kill the performance of that car(low torque).
The only way to improve the Qp would be offering a regular Manual or go the whole shebang and put V12 in it with Automatic.

Maserati definitely stands out. I have not seen an S 550 in Pittsburgh yet, but have seen the Maserarti - it's definitely a show stopper.

With that said, I do love the 550 AMG package.

NYC 32, do you work around 47th and Madi? I interned at Bear Stearns last summer.

If you're planning to keep it a long time, I'm gonna change my answer and say get the S550.

PS- Where in MI are you? I grew up in Bloomfield Hills and enjoy going back there a few times a year.

Lol. I can see a little Buick.

Now the A8 is a damn nice car. The interior is AMAZING, although it is a bit reminding of the A4.

No doubt the S8 is a beatiful car but it wasn't one of his choices. Maybe it will be now...

Lol. If you can, take a closer look at the speedometer of the car. IMO, it looks so plain, like that of a Toyota Camry or something. Anyone else feel the same way?
