That being said, you should be able to BEAT ebay prices.

I'll wait til December/Jan so I can apply my cousin's ECN (Employee Control Number) to the S550 and get a 27 month lease at a ridiculous price!!!

depends.... for a base car it's a fair deal...for a loaded car with AMG package, etc is a hot deal. How many miles?

Its a white s550 with cashmere interior, its very basic (I think P1 package). Still, 0 down and taxes included in the payment, I think 1299 is pretty damn good considering I was quoted 1500 with 8000 taxes down for a CLS55.

I got it at Mercedes of Larchmont in NY.

Fabulous!

“A major factor that helped contribute to this year's success is undoubtedly the new S-Class, a model which has sold over 77,000 units since its launch last September.” Dieter Zetsche.

Jack, you are a master...the way you waltzed through this thread...and very diplomatically I might add. I agree with everything you posted.

As you know I bought my S600 a month ago (10/06) and paid full sticker price. I haggled with two dealers in the Tampa Bay area but they didn't have the car I wanted. All of them wanted full sticker price...or more. I finally got my car in Lakeland. Since it was the only white car available with 19" wheels, I gladly paid full price and got what I wanted.

2007 S550
All three MB dealers here in Phoenix have plenty of S550s sitting on the lot. Guess why? Because their unsold inventory consists of base S550s with P1 only and no other options. Nobody wants those so they'll deal to move them. Let's face it, buying an unoptioned S-Class is stupid. For the money I'd rather have an E55 AMG (or E63 as is now the new one). I ordered in January and had to wait until September to get my loaded P3 S550. It was well worth the wait and well worth paying full boat for it.

If someone is so hung up on saving a few grand, and getting stuck with an unoptioned S550 on top of it, I'd have to assume that person wants one as a status symbol and doesn't truly love the car as I do.

Ok guys:
a little bit of discount info.
take the base MSRP: 87,000 (give or take)
x .10
$8700
- 1000
(yes, only the base MSRP counts, there isnt much margin in options)

This is the MAXIMUM PROFIT for the deal after floor plan costs and advertising fees. This would be $7700. There is NO deal in the US that will deal in hold back money on these cars. I get calls every single day from CA, LV, NY, FL, etc. My dealership advertises heavily on ebay and autotrader. We have done $5000 off on only the select S550's. I worked a very nice deal for a member of this board at $4500 off on a very well equipped S550 with AMG package and free delivery. Unfortunately with the way Ebay auctions run, the main car wanted was sold by the time we got our heads together on numbers. A discount of $3000 is a very good buy on a loaded S550, ask any real broker, because we are selling to them at 3k off and they are reselling and making profits. The equipped cars are hard to get, otherwise I wouldnt be doing deals in Miami and Vegas from South Carolina. The S600 is easily had at 5K off. Ive done 2 this week. Max discount on these is about 7k. It just doesnt make sense to give away a high demand car. If anyone can get 8k off without working for a dealership my hat is off to you and I hope you are making lots of cash on the backend of those deals, otherwise you're killing yourself. The new CL's are going for sticker in this area, not a penny over, same with any of the cars, we dont have a market like So Cal and 25k over sticker deals. If you can get some money off a CL, just take the deal and dont ask questions.

3 of the 10 or 12 dealers in or around LA will do invoice on most S550's if you are leasing. The money factor isnt great though...a lot of S550 have come into the port this month and it seems they are sitting a bit longer on the lot then they were before...some of the dealers have current inventory lists of their new cars...and it seems like the non-sport 550's are sitting longest. A Sport 550 in a less popular color with options can be done at invoice if you know how to negotiate.

Do these cars have decent options? The Phoenix dealers have inventory lists of S550s as well but they're all bare-bones, even the ones with AMG. I had to wait forever to get mine with P3, which is still not orderable due to no night vision availibility, yet mine went through due to some fluke ... if I didn't buy my car when it came in I'm certain they could have sold it above sticker due to demand for that option. Like I've said, I wouldn't want an S-Class that isn't loaded and apparently lots of other people agree.

Thanks anyway for the lead.
Here's a question for all the I-buy-through-an-auto-broker: in years past, buying a new car through an auto broker meant that the vehicle was actually sold (resold) to the buyer as a 'used' vehicle. Is this still true? In other worlds, the M-B dealer 'sold' it to a broker, and then the broker 'sold' it to me. I have even had to sign a disclaimer acknowleding that it was technically a 'used' vehicle and the new-vehicle warranty had already started before I took delivery... maybe someone could clarify the legal paperwork that the buyer signs at delivery...

I've been quoted 8K off MSRP if I was to get the P2, Night View and Rear View Camera along with the multi-spoke 19" wheels...

If the title is flipped to you before registration it is not a used car. It gets way too technical when going across state lines and taxes and everything else. If a dealer is offering a similar deal just buy from a dealer. I dont see how broker's are getting you better deals than dealers anyway, I know what I sell to broker's at so obviously, the buyer is paying more than the broker is buying at. But if time is an issue and money is not, I say go for it. Less negotiation is never a bad thing.

I just don't have the patience to haggle on personal items like cars. It makes it feel too much like work and takes the fun out of it. Plus once I've decided to buy a cool toy I regress to about 10 years old and I hardly care about money any more.

On my S550 order I asked for $3500 and the salesperson agreed immediately without even checking with his manager. So I obviously didn't ask for enough.

I hope that helps someone else here. I'm guessing I'm paying $1000 - $2000 too much? That's for an ordered car which I understand dealers are more willing to discount.

I got a $5,800 discount on an ordered car that is NOT a 4matic, but had most of the option boxes ticked.

Ordered it exactly a month ago for Feb/Mar delivery.

Ouch. I did get ripped off. Or at least I'm ripping myself off because I didn't even try.

Oh well, just don't tell the wife, OK? I'll do something extra at work next week to make it up.

re :prices paid for s550

I picked up a s550 4maticwith p2,nvision,rear camera, dynamic seats and power trunk, did not get 1 cent off of msrp with a half hour window to buy the car, being that i live in new york 4maic is practical for the winter, the only reason that i was even offered this car is that i bought 4 previous s class cars from this dealer and same salesperson, MB of Massapequa. Even thogh my purchase was a 4matic no way are you getting 5k off on any of the s550's unless they are used and woodhaven is in queens not brooklyn, just my 2 cents worth, not looking to stir up anything with my 1st post on this very informative forum.......wman

Oh you're stirring things up awright! Just kidding...

If you read my post again, I did mention specifically the car I ordered was not a 4matic. My dealer (in northern NJ) did tell me that they were giving little or no discounts on the 4matic models in the metro NY region because it has such high demand and they sell each and every one at or near MSRP; and because mine is the rear wheel drive model (so that I can have the ABC option), I got a better deal than was possible on a 4matic.

Plus this will be the fifth car in my family from this dealer and rep in the last 5 years, so was able to get a decent deal without too much haggling.

Just ordered mine, p2 option, black on black, night vision assist, rear view, auto trunk closer, upgraded wheels...came out to be around 97800. Picking it up Wed...By the way, it was my bonus/gift as i'd never pay retail for this type of ride out of my own funds.
