2011 E350 Cabriolet..White and Almond Mocha
You may have missed it since many dealers charge a similar fee and Fletcher Jones in LV has it preprinted on the Sales Document. It is not "dishonest" if it is clearly and plainly diclosed as a "sales fee" such as Greg has done above. Profit it is in one way or another...if you don't want to pay it then just pass on the deal.

No Suprises
I always mention it in any post here with the price. We do the same on the phone or in emails quotes to customers. We don't like suprises nor do our clients.

I would agree that it would be "dishonest" if you found out about after you had committed to the car and worked all the numbers, in this ad that is clearly not the case.

4 wheels
But what is a dealer fee? Why charge it? Are you doing anything special to the car that you must be charging a dealer fee for? Just curious, since I have never seen such a charge.

Not sure where it came from
I think some state's have banned the practice.
I'm not sure what happens to it on the accounting side. The first store I worked for out here used to say that's how the Title Clerk/Administration people got paid for doing the paperwork on the back side of a car deal.
I think if I owned the store I would want one in place so I could ensure that I was getting $489 everytime my store sold a car. In today's enviroment of people walking in the door with the "edmunds" invoice and an offer of $5000 below that, you have to have some sacred ground somewhere that the desk can not give away. Many of the stores that do not charge one would also have you believe there is only 7% in a Mercedes-Benz, their sacred ground is the 5% holdback for the store/owner.
