Smile Tires for S550 4matic AMG package

I have ordered a 2007 S550 4matic with the AMG package. Has anyone got one or seen one who can tell me:
Does it have staggered tire size?
What are the sizes of the tires?
What brands are they using?
Are they highperformance all season or just summer?
What does anyone think of all season ultra high performance for winter?
Do most of you just get winter tires mounted on extra set of wheels?
I think MBUSA sight may not be accurate answers to these questions.
Thanks for the help.

Sorry, can't help you with those questions but a lot of guys here have the sport package so I am sure you will be your questions answered. My question, I see that you have a designo ESpresso, I was wondering if you were impressed with the color and the amenities of the designo package and if it would be worth getting again?

MBUSA website should give you the tire and wheel sizes for the option, AMG Sport Package, under 'details' - I would think.

From MBUSA.com:

2007 Packages
321 AMG Sport Package

The spirit of performance takes form in the S-Class AMG Sport Package. An aggressive AMG-designed front air dam tames the wind, sending it past sculpted, lower side sills and around a seductively styled rear apron.

This package also includes huge, staggered-width 19" AMG 5-spoke light alloy wheels wrapped in 255/40 R19 tires in front, and asphalt-grabbing 275/40 R19 high-performance rubber in back. If you're looking to further accentuate the athletic personality of your S-Class, the AMG Sport Package is the answer. *

* High-Speed Rated tires provide substantially increased tread wear and reduced ride comfort compared to H rated tires. Serious wheel and tire damage may occur if the vehicle is operated on rough or damaged road surfaces or upon encountering road debris or obstacles.

It's a real mess if they put 'H' rated tires on the S-Class in US. These are very underrated for an S-Class. In Europe no one gets under 'W' rating for such cars. You have the most creamy roads but don't get real performance tires.

I have called MBUSA (800-FOR-MERC) several times and they are usually very helpful. One thing they can do, is to pull up your VIN and tell you about all of the installed options. They are probably short-staffed over the weekends, but there has to be somebody there in order to deal with the roadside emergencies.

Good luck, and welcome to the forum!

I don't see why not? I've seen staggered setups on MLs.

Might want to check in the Tire forum to be sure. Luke could probably help you.

Here is the pdf. to be sure. Have a look at page 16 of 36.

http://www.mercedes-benz.de/content/...lasse_W221.pdf

Unfortunately staggered tires are not available for 4MATIC S-Class. It is surprising that they put them on the ML but not on the S.

Then why is it an option for the ML? Link posted above...

And why have W163 members been able to do it?

I doubt they really can, but if someone has it is probably because they are trucks--not real cars!

Here's what Luke at The Tire Rack says about these setups:

"...without the proper diameter tires the 4-matic system can easily be damaged which would be a very expensive mistake and not something I would recommend. There are some cars (i.e. E55 4m, Porsche C4, etc.) the are all wheel drive with staggered wheels and tires but, their electronics and all wheel drive systems were designed with that in mind unlike yours ... I would go with 18x8 / 245/40-18 or 235/40-18__________________

Yeah Merc and BMW don't know it and they put staggered tires on four-wheel drives like ML and X5 and let them go boom. What an ignorance is it...

Yes using a staggered set of tires on a 4-matic S class will eventully distroy the gears that drive the wheel/tires. Audi's w/quattro are the same.
